Velna Fox Deal, age 82, of Somerset,
passed from this life on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
She was born on September 6, 1934 in
Nancy, Kentucky to the late George and Ella Mae Johnson Fox.
Velna was a graduate of Nancy High School Class of 1952 and a
member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset. She loved to
read the Bible and listen to Christian music. She also enjoyed
doing crossword puzzles and being a caregiver for others. One of
her greatest joys was spending time with her family. Velna lived
her life to its fullest and loved to laugh. She was a health
enthusiast and enjoyed aerobic exercising. Her genuine passion
was spending time with her husband on the golf cart while
feeding the ducks, squirrels and birds. For all things, Velna
made no excuses – cancer, heart attack, the loss of family.
Velna was enthusiastic in her love and devotion to God, her
family, and daily exercise.
She is survived by her husband; James
“Jim” Allen Deal, whom she married August 15, 1954; son, Douglas
Deal, of Somerset, daughter; Debbie Sharpe (David) Tapp of
Somerset, sisters; Sylvia Holmes, of Somerset, and Lola Emerson
of Clarksville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her
grandchildren; Jessica Sharpe (Nick) Stringer, Chelsea Sharpe,
step-grandchildren; Andrian (Matt) Jamison, Morgan Tapp, and
Katherine Tapp (Joe) Hammond and a sister-in-law; Marie Gant, of
Hickory, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, brothers; Lawrence Fox and Leonard Fox; sisters; Ida
Dalton and Olive Harris.
Visitation will be on Monday, April
24, 2017 after 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral
Home with funeral services to follow at 12:30 P.M. at the
funeral home with Dr. French Harmon and Bro. David Pendley
Burial will be in the Mill Springs
National Cemetery, Nancy, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers the
family requests that contributions be made to the St Jude’s
Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,
