Burnetta (Dick) Stringer, 75, Plantation Ave. passed away Friday April 26, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born September 4, 1926 in Cincinnati, Oh., a daughter of the late Johnnie C. Dick and Ida Mae (Randolph) Dick. She was former joint owner and administrator of Dick’s Hilltop Rest Home for 37 years, she taught school for one year at Vaught Ridge School and a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons; Dannie C. (and Patricia L.) Stringer, John Gary (and Patricia D.) Stringer, both of Somerset, KY. and Tony (and Debbie) Stringer of Lexington, KY., three brothers; Vernon (and Nancy Jean) Dick, Bill (and Lou Ethel) Dick and Ronnie (and Mary Ellen) Dick, all of Science Hill, KY., two sisters; Glenice (and Bobby) Harness, Science Hill, KY. and Bernice (and Jim) Broyles, Lexington. KY. one sister in law; Rissie Dick, Melbourne, Fl., 5 grandchildren; Coral (and Josh) Haynes, Lexington, KY, Kevin (and Jill, Stringer, Shopville, KY., Courtney (and Kevin) Hollis, Lexington, KY, John Cory Stringer, Lexington, KY. and Tyler Stringer, Lexington, KY., 2 great grandchildren; Joshua and Kala Stringer, both of Shopville, KY., Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Clyde Stringer whom she married on February 17, 1945 and who passed away on January 26, 2002, and one brother; Gassel Dick. Orvil R. Gilliland, 59, Hwy 934 passed away Friday April 26, 2002 at his residence. He was born August 28, 1942 in Woodstock, KY., a son of the late Lemon Orvil Gilliland and Ella Mae (Hines) Gilliland. He was a carpenter, a member of National Rifle Association and the Zion Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife: Ann (Rutherford) Gilliland, whom he married on March 23, 1962, three daughters; Melody Griffis, Somerset, KY., Tammy Gilliland, Stanford, KY. and Melinda Baggett, Nancy, KY., his step father; Walter Lee Hines, Woodstock, KY., two brothers; Estil Gilliland, Port Saint Lucy, FL. and Carl Lee Gilliland, Somerset, KY., on sister; Donna Mae Stevens, Somerset, KY., 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Shelley B. Akers, 83, of Westridge Road Eubank., passed away Sunday April 21, 2002 at her daughters residence in Maderia, Ohio. She was born November 19, 1918 in Wallins, Ky. to the late Zachary and Lavinia (Brock) Blanton. She was a homemaker, precious mother and a member of Eubank Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters; Helen Wynne of Louisville, Ky., Elizabeth S. Walker of Maderia, Ohio., Arbidella Garner of Cincinnati, Ohio., Joy McClain of Mars, PA., one son; H. Chuck Akers of Eubank., thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She was born March 24, 1921 in Hogue, KY. a daughter of the late Fredrick Leigh and Mary Beth (McKee) Hendricks. She was a homemaker and attended Somerset Baptist Temple. Survivors include her husband; Ross Frybarger whom she married on November 1974, two sons; David (and Sandy) Frybarger of Eubank, and Michael (and Judy) Frybarger of Thurmont, MD., one daughter; Deborah (and Noe) Hernandez of Benson, AZ., three brothers; Alvey Hendricks, James Boyd Hendricks and Gerald Hendricks all of Eubank, nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was born February 24, 1923 in Pulaski County, a daughter of the late Charles M. Vaught and Rosie (Alexander) Vaught. She was a homemaker, a long time children’s Sunday School Teacher at Danville First Baptist Church where she was member for many years. She is survived by her husband; Rufus Brittain whom she married on January 28, 1942, celebrating 60 years of marriage this year, one son; Rudy Brittain, Louisville, KY., two sisters; Marie Spears, Danville, KY and Aliene Poynter, Somerset, KY., and two grandchildren; Eric and Emily Brittain, Louisville, KY. Mr. John D. Henderlight, 78, Henderlight Drive passed away April 16, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born April 6, 1924, in Knoxville, TN, a son of the late John Boyd Henderlight and Gladys (Inez) Henderlight. He was a Deputy Sheriff for 17 years between 1967 - 1985 under Sheriff Sherman Hansford, Gilmore Phelps and Johnny Adams. He served also as Ferguson Chief of Police, Deputy Jailer under Hollis Smith and & Rick Barker. He was a member of Burnside Masonic Lodge #634 since October 25, 1947. He was a charter member of the Kentucky Sheriffs Association, and a member of Slate Branch Baptist Church. He is survived by four sons; Jim Henderlight, Somerset, KY., Jody Henderlight, Somerset, KY., Tim Henderlight, Williamsburg, KY. and Robin Henderlight, Somerset, KY., four daughters; Terry Vaught, Kelly Bowles, Toni Anderson, all of Somerset, KY. and Katherine Silvers, West Chester, OH., 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Pulaski County Sheriff Sam Catron, the son of Jennie Rachel (Morrow) Catron and the late Harold L. Catron, was born on May 11, 1953 in Somerset, KY. He passed from this life on Saturday April 13, 2002 in Shopville, Kentucky. He was a board member of the Eagle Scout Troop 82, a vigil life member and past chief of Kawida Lodge Order of the Area, a member of the Board of Directors of the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad, member of the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad, board member of the Appalachian High Density Drug Traffic Area, Sheriff of the Year 1989, Kentucky Colonel, Ferguson Chief of Police 1982-1985, served as a Pulaski County deputy sheriff for 7 1/2 years before he became Ferguson Chief of Police, member of the Governor’s Task Force for Marijuana Eradication, and a member of the National Sheriff’s Association from January 1, 1986 until present. He was a graduate of the Somerset High School for 1971. Sheriff Catron is survived by his mother; Jennie Rachel Catron, a brother; Lewis (and Carol) Catron of Somerset, two sisters; Mellie R. Catron, of Somerset and Nancy (and Dr. George) Hruneni of Arnold, Maryland. Two nephews; Shannon (And Glenda) Catron of Somerset and Cameron Catron of Somerset. A niece; Tina (and Pete) Winkler, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, a uncle and aunt, a great niece; Jessica Catron of Somerset and several cousins, too. Bro. Jewell Edward Hail Sr., 75, Hwy. 1643 passed away Wednesday April 3, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born January 13, 1927 in Somerset, KY. a son of the late Edward Felix Hail and Aline B. (Colyer) Hail. He was a US Army W.W.II Veteran, a Baptist Pastor, carpenter and builder. He was the current vice-president of the Haynes Knob Fire Department. He pastored for 40 years. In those 40 years he pastored Glennwood Baptist, Hopeful Baptist, Sinking Valley Baptist, Pleasant Run Baptist, Bronston Baptist and Pleasant View Baptist Church. He also worked in a mission in Indiana for 2 years. He was a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College and a member of Malvin Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife; Christine (Chaney) Hail whom he married May 25, 1947 at Buck Creek Baptist Church. She was faithfully by his side for 55 years. two sons; Dr. Michael W. (and Deloris B.)
