Arlie Jewell Hargis

April 1, 1917 - July 25, 2008

Mr. Arlie Jewell Hargis, age 91, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Friday, July25, 2008 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset.

He was born on April 1, 1917 in the Colo community of Pulaski County to the late George and Millie Brinson Hargis. He retired from Kingsford Charcoal Factory and was a foster grandparent at the Communities of Oakwood for 17 years. Arlie was a member and the oldest living charter deacon of the Denham Street Baptist Church.

Mr. Hargis is survived by his four daughters, Sue Hargis, Kathy Girky, Mary (and Clifford) Butt, and Judy Casada all of Somerset; a sister, Mary Slusher of Cincinnati, OH; a half brother, Walter Hargis of Ohio; four half sisters, Othella, Janet, Margaret, and Lilly; five grandchildren, Rodney Casada, Becky Roberts, Barry Girky, Amy Mink, and Kelvin Girky; ten great grandchildren, Sarah Girky, Rachel Girky, Jordan Foutch, Lauren Foutch, Whitney Casada, Casi Thomas, Bro. Grant Hardwick, Spring Hurtt, Kaitlyn Jackson, and Noah Hardwick; six great-great grandchildren, Zabery Hurtt, Wyatt Hurtt, Jackson Casada, Andrew Hardwick, Isaac Hardwick, and Eli Hardwick; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Hargis of Bronston, KY.

Preceding in death were his parents; his wife, Evelyn Slavey Hargis, whom he married on October 3, 1941 in White Lily, KY; two sons, Edward “Bub” Hargis and Vernon Hargis; a granddaughter, Valerie Mink; and two sons-in-law, Nolan Casada and Joe Girky.

Visitation for Mr. Hargis will be Sunday, July 27th from 2:00–6:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home Monday, July 28th at 1:00 pm with Bro. J.S. New and Bro. Grant Hardwick officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
