Caudie
Redmond, age 89, of Somerset, KY went to be with the Lord on
Saturday, July 9, 2011 at his residence.
He
was born on July 30, 1921 in Nancy, KY to the late Cornelious
Redmond and Stella Chumley Redmond. He was a member of the
Chesterview Baptist Church, where he attended and served the Lord
for fifty-seven years until failing health prevented him from
doing so. He spent many years working as a machinist and
spent the latter part of his career teaching Machine Shop at
Somerset Vocational School.
Mr.
Redmond was a WWII Army combat veteran. He enlisted in June
1940 at the age of 18, and served for the duration of the war.
During his tenure, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant First
Class, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Caudie served
with the 1st Armored Division throughout the North
African Campaign, known as “Operation Torch”. He went on
to be involved in the major battle at Anzio, Italy and was among
the first U.S. troops to enter the city of Rome, Italy during its
liberation. Caudie was injured twice in combat and was
awarded the Purple Heart and the Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr.
Redmond was a member of American Legion Post #38 and served on
with Post Honor Guard.
Caudie
was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a dedicated family
man.
Mr.
Redmond is survived by his wife Rachel Girdler Redmond, whom he
married on March 5th, 1945 in Nancy, KY. From
this union they were blessed with six children, Diana (and Dallas)
Davis of Nancy, KY, Doris Simpson of Somerset, KY, Donna (and
Allen) Johnson of Richmond, KY, Deborah Reynolds of Somerset, KY,
Michael Redmond of Mississippi and Marcus (and Shelly) Redmond of
Somerset, KY; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren
and one great-great grandchild.
Along
with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clidis
Redmond; a sister, Ina Elizabeth Girdler and two granddaughters,
Crystal Caudette Marcum and Samantha Redmond.
Visitation
for Mr. Redmond will be Tuesday, July 12th after 6:00
pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home and then after 10:00 am on
Wednesday, July 13th at Chesterview Baptist Church in
Nancy, KY.
Funeral
service will be held on Wednesday, July 13th at 11:00
am at the Chesterview Baptist Church with Brother Bobby Clark and
Brother Larry Butte officiating. Interment will be in
Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
