He was born October 13, 1927, in Clinton Co. KY., a son of the Late Claude Goodman and Bessie (Dicken) Goodman. He was a School Bus Driver, Farmer and a member of National Rifle Association and Buck Creek Sportsman Club. He was of the Methodist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Grace (Ferguson) Goodman: two sons, James R. (and Rebecca) Goodman, Frankfort, KY. and Jerry (and Linda) Goodman, Science Hill: two grandchildren, Tracy Goodman, Glasgow, KY. and James David Goodman, Frankfort, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents: three brothers: Elmer, Jesse and Roy Goodman.

Mr. Archie Kahn Newell of 113 Todd Street Somerset, Kentucky., passed away Sunday December 23, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1960 to the late John Robert and Oreida Kathyrn (McDaniel) Newell. He was a machine operator for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 10 years. A 1979 graduate of Somerset High School. He confessed his love and life for Jesus Christ on July 30, 2001 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member. A member of the Allstate Football Team, receiving numerous Accolades for his outstanding achievements. He received a football scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University in 1979. He was a Private in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Karen Kay (Johnson) Newell whom he married on February 14, 1992; one son Deondre’ Newell of Charlotte, NC.; one daughter Kalisha Johnson Newell of Somerset; six brothers Kim Newell, Michael and (Sherlene) Newell, John Newell Jr., Kelly and (Jannice) Newell, Steve Newell and Sean Newell; two sisters Michelle and (Jeff) Watznauer, Portia and (Ron) Loveless; four sister-in-law Roberta and (David) Lipscomb, Phyllis and (Marshall) Newby, Linda Jones, Katherine Jones; one brother-in-law Stanley Johnson; one grand daughter Mikayla Chanelle Newell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Exie Lee Jasper was born August 30, 1918 to Lola May (Scales) Lyons and William Richard (Duley) Lyons near Nancy. She was reared and attended elementary schools in the Nancy area. She married Ezra Keith Jasper on November 24, 1943 at Somerset. They lived at Cains Store until 1973, when they moved to 3305 West Highway 80 near Saline. Exie is survived by her husband, Ezra; two daughters, Sedahilia Jasper Crase, Ames, Iowa and Kathy Jasper Weiler, Somerset; two grandchildren, Kristen Lee Crase, Kamikuishikl, Japan and Brandon Keith Crase, Northfield, Minnesota; two sons-in-law, Ike Crase, Ames and Paul R. Weiler, Somerset; two sisters, Rella Lyons, Somerset and Beatrice Henderson, Stanford; six nieces and two nephews. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Delinie Henderson, a sister-in-law Clara (Gosser)

Lyons, and Aunt Della Wilson. She was precede in death by her parents and three brothers, William, Arnold, and Arvil Lyons.

Exie was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. She was a beautiful and hardworking mother, wife, sister, grandmother and aunt.

She died on December 22, 2001 at Baptist Regional Center in Corbin after a lengthy illness related to a fall at home.

Mr. Stephie Joe Phelps, son of the late Arnold Phelps and Alberta Sears Phelps Bolin, was born in Somerset, Ky. on June 12, 1975 and departed this life on Thursday, December 20, 2001 having attained the age of 26 years.

He is survived by one daughter Jolee Phelps of Somerset, Ky.; one son Joshua Phelps; one brother Timothy Phelps of Somerset, Ky.; one sister Wilma Price and her husband Charlie of Somerset, Ky.; and his fiancee Teresa Loveless.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Albert Phelps and one nephew David Sears.

He was a former employee of The Pulaski County Animal Control. He was a kind person who will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by one son Dennis Burdine; two brothers, Albert and Jessie Burdine; five sisters, Lina Kirby, Oda Cromer, Bessie Carpenter, Milda Vanhook, and Catherine Turner.

Mr. Fred Phelps. 87, 265 Hwy 192 passed away Saturday December 15, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born November 2, 1914 in the Bent Community, a son of the late Grover C. Phelps and Emily (Kenney) Phelps. He was a farmer, an employee of the Pulaski County Board of Education, a Pulaski County Magistrate for 12 years and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Everett Brock who preceded her in death.
