Donald E. Smith, 66, Lakeview Drive, Somerset, Kentucky., passed away Saturday December 28, 2002 of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born April 16th, 1936 and Williamsburg, Kentucky, a son of the late Parks Smith and Maude (White) Smith. He was a Sheer Machine Operator.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Brown) Smith, he married on January 27th, 1956; two sons, Donald Alan (and Susann) Smith and Kevin Edward (and Renee’) Smith, both of Warren, Michigan; two brothers, Oscar Smith, Whitley City, Kentucky and Larry Smith, Corbin, Kentucky; three sisters, Pettie Childers, Bonnie Richardson and Nancy Barton, all of Williamsburg, Kentucky.; four grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Kristopher Smith, Branden Smith and Brittany Smith, all of Warren, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lennie Inman.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 31st, 2002 at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Brother Curt Herrington officiating. George A. Wilhelm, 72, Hwy 1247, Eubank, KY., passed away Friday December 27, 2002 with Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born March 6th, 1930 in Rush Center, Kansas, a son of the late Philip Wilhelm and Ester (Youst) Wilhelm. He was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War, a retired railroad employee and a member of the Family Worship Center, Waynesburg, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Nora (Pence) Wilhelm, whom he married November 2nd, 1954; one son, Fred Wilhelm, husband of Micki Shea, Park Hills, KY.; two daughters, Christine D. Mitchell, Florence, KY. and Teresa L (Charles Cecil) Brown, Eubank, KY.; one brother, Norman Wilhelm, Great Bend, Kansas; three sisters, Kathryn Pickins, Douglass, Kansas, Joyce Rogers, McCracken, Kansas and Florence Schutte, LaCrosse, Kansas; two grandchildren, Freddy Wilhelm, Park Hills, KY. and Elizabeth Mitchell, Highland Heights, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Thelma Kirby.

He was born September 7th, 1918, a son of the late Frank Rigney and Bertha Doss Rigney Tucker. He was a farmer and a member of Tuttle’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Wayne County, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Smith Rigney, whom he married on July 8th, 1938, in Wayne County, KY.; two sons, James Franklin (and Brenda) Rigney, Russellville, KY and Willie (and Betty) Rigney, Bronston, KY.; three daughters, Carolyn Sue (and Jack) Higginbotham, Fairline, IN., Sylvia Jean (and James) Luttrell, Bronston, KY. and Jewell (and Rondon) Hutson, Helenwood, Tenn.; one brother, R. B. He was born January 30, 1919 in Greenwood, KY., a son of the late Gordon Ballou and Lizzie Heath Ballou. She was a W. W. II United States Army Veteran, a retired tow motor operator for Fox Paper Co. in Lockland, Ohio and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Blue John Road, Burnside KY.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Schierloh,, he married June 29, 1946 in Reading, Ohio.; two sons, Robert J. (Sally) Ballou, Loveland, Ohio and Donald E. Ballou, Blue Ash, Ohio; one daughter, Judy A. Armacost, Reading, Ohio; one brother, Paul Ballou, Arlington, Ohio; three sisters, Thelma Edwards, Reading, Ohio, Joyce Lucas, Cincinnati, Ohio and Wanda Hunt, Finneyton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Eric Armacost, Jr., Robert A. Daniel Nathan Johnson, 19, Eubank, KY. Passed away Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY., as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born April 29, 1983 in Harlan County a son of the late Larry Johnson and Anola Cornett Roney. He was a student at Somerset Community College, an employee of L. R. Halcomb Construction and of the Baptist Faith.

James K. Whitus, 63, Old Hickory, TN., formerly of the Dahl Community passed away Thursday December 19, 2002 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He was born May 8, 1939 in Dahl, KY., a son of the late Buster Whitis and Sophia Mae (Inabnitt) Whitus. He was a retired insurance executive with CIGNA Reinsurance of Hartford, CT. He was a US Navy  E-9 veteran, serving more than 22 years with the US Navy Submarine Service where he held the position of Submarine Medical Officer and was a qualified ship control and diving officer for nuclear submarines and a member of Immanual Baptist Church in Lebanon, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Wheeler) Whitis; four sons, J. Guy Whitus, Old Hickory, TN., Roger L. Whitus, Montgomery, AL., Christopher Lee Whitus, Springfield, MO. and Robert Wayne Whitus, Disputanta, VA.; three daughter, Jayne Gail Whitus, Old Hickory, TN., Regena Lynn Denham, Somerset, KY. and Rhonda L. Thomas, Montgomery, AL.; one brother, Pretchel Cleon Whitus, Somerset, KY.; 10 grandchildren, Aaron, Amy, Joel, Ashley, Hunter, Kendal, Tyler, Ann Sue, Michael and Chloe.

His parents precede him in death.

She was born August 23, 1908, the daughter of the late Eugene “Tuck” Lester and Martha Lou Emma Burdine. She was a former school teacher, member of Nancy Homemakers, Goodwill Homemakers, a board member of the Pulaski County Alzheimer’s, the former Owner/Operator of Crestview Nursing Home and a member and Sunday School Teacher at White Oak Baptist Church, Nancy, KY.

She is survived by one son, Virthel (and Oneida) Wilson Jr., Somerset, KY.; 4 grandchildren, Paula (and Bob) Boon, Bobbie (and Bob) Beers, Larry (and Alice) Early and Debi (and Pat) Hanrahan; 7 great grandchildren, D.T., Tiffany, Robbie, Justin, Kattie, Sarah and Ryan, and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virthel Wilson Sr., whom she married on October 23, 1928; one son, Eugene Russell Wilson; one daughter, Evangeline “Eve” Early; 3 brothers Carson, Claude and Elmer Lester and one grandson, Eugene Russell "Russ" Wilson II.

He was born April 15, 1920 in Naomi Community of Pulaski County, a son of the late Vola Trimble and Flonnie (Floyd) Trimble. He was a 1938 graduate of Nancy High School, a WWII U S Army veteran, a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Trimble, Frankfort, KY., Tim (and Jeanette) Trimble and Joey (and Trudy) Trimble, both of Somerset, KY.; one daughter, Rosemary (and Jeff) Ellis, Frankfort, KY.; one brother, Claude Trimble, Nancy, KY.; two sisters, Nina Stringer, Nancy, KY. and Zella Colyer, Woodstock Community; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Fredscrek High School in Pike County, a Business college graduate with a business degree and held a Real Estate License, working as an agent for Century 21 Realty Co. She also worked for the Bethany House, Somerset, KY. She was also a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John M. Adams, whom she married on July 7, 1958 in Clintwood, TN.; two sons, Martin (and Tamara) Adams, New Jersey and Michael D. (and Tina) Adams, Frankfort, KY.; one daughter, Samantha (and Rusty) Smith, Somerset, KY.; five brothers, Ron Deskins and Lowell Deskins, both of Columbus, OH., Denny Deskins, Ashland, KY., Billy Deskins, Richmond, KY. and Chris Deskins, Pikeville, KY.; two sisters, Betty Flanary, New Albany, IN. and Susie Dickson, Salem, IN.; 5 grandchildren, Christina J. She was born March 7, 1917 in Hickory Nut Community of Pulaski Co., KY. a daughter of the late Thomas and Liza (Hardwick) Dick. She was a homemaker and a Charter member of Carter Ridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Ivan (and Fern) Harness, Eldon (and Ann) Harness all of Carter Ridge Community; one sister, Reva Carter; nine grandchildren, Eugene (and Luanne) Harness, Wanda (and Ben) Garland, Gerald (and Wanda) Harness, Norman (and Sherri) Harness, Gary (and Regina) Harness, George (and Brenda) Harness, Lila Denney, Connie (and Carlos) Thompson, Ellie Harness; seventeen great grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parent; her husband, George Phillip Harness, whom she married September 17, 1935 in Pointer Creek and who passed away on September 30, 2002; two brothers, Elmer and Delmer Dick; eight sisters, Lola, Bannie, Bonnie, Laurie, Mary, Ella, Ruby and Marthie and one grandson, Alvin Dean Harness.

Mr. James Eddie Price, 65, Highway 70 Eubank, KY., passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2002, in London Ky. as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born June 5, 1937 in Pulaski County, KY., the son of  the late Louie and Mattie (Estep) Price. He was a Sales Manager for George Humfleet Mobile Home, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Hazeldell Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy (Bates) Price; one daughter, Vicki (and Mike) Hines,  Somerset, KY; three sons, Rick (and Debbie) Price, Steve (and Karla) Price all of Somerset, KY., and Donald (and Tammy) Thomas, Corbin, KY.; one sister, Lois (and Wade) Combs, Eubank, KY.; 10 grandchildren, Tasha Creech (whom he raised), Scott Flynn, Cory Flynn, Stephanie Hawk, Courtney Price, Eric Price, Stephanie Price, Caleb Price, Gary Creech and Sierra Thomas; four great grandchildren, Kelli Hawk, Kailyn Flynn, Jaymie Flynn and Kendall Hawk and several nieces and nephews.

Alva “Al” E. Harrison, 79, of Oak Hill Road passed away Tuesday December 3, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  

He was born January 27, 1923 in Heyworth, Illinois, the son of the late Nannie Arran and William W. Harrison. He was a retired supervisor for Cumberland Wood and Chair, Army Veteran of WWII and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Neeley, whom he married on November 17, 1943 in Somerset, KY.; one son, Jerry A. (and Stella) Harrison, Somerset, KY.; one daughter, Janet (and Danny) Whitaker, Somerset, KY.; three grandchildren, Stephanie (and Arlin) Moore, Scott (and Ammie) Whitaker, Craig (and Tricia) Whitaker, all of Somerset; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cole and Clay Whitaker all of Somerset, KY. and Samantha and Jake Moore of Pine Knot, KY., as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Faye (Elam) Smith; one son, Victor Clay (and Chris) Smith, Latonia, Kentucky; one daughter, Virginia Ann (and Scott) Robinson, Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Junior Smith of Poodledoo, Kentucky; four sisters, Bonnie Lou Wilson, Poodledoo Kentucky, Geneva Stewart, West Chester, Ohio, Lavene Byrd, Carthage, Ohio and Betty Sue Waddle, West Chester, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Windola Gaddis, Sally B. Smith, Bobby, Ora, Oden, Zora and George Smith.

Funeral services will be l:00 P.M., Saturday December 7, 2002 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Evans officiating.  Burial will be in the Spaw Cemetery, Liberty, Kentucky. Visitation will be after 10:30 A.M. Saturday December 7, 2002 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Jimmy Wayne Erp, 58, Hwy 1003 passed away Tuesday December 3, 2002 at his residence.

He was born January 26, 1944 in Ula Community, a son of the late Milford Easter Erp and Thelma (Bullock) Erp. He was US Army Vietnam War Veteran, an employee of Ikerd Coal Company, a former employee for Arvins Industries in Greenwood, KY. for 35 years, a member of the American legion Post #250 in Greenwood, Indiana and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Piercey) Erp, whom he married on November 30, 1989 in Pulaski County; one son, Wayne Joseph Erp, Indianapolis, IN.; one step-son, Eric Piercey, Beech Grove, IN.; one daughter, Lorraine (and William) Butcher, Middlebury, IN.; one step daughter, Jennifer Piercey Franklin, IN.; two brothers, Carl Erp, Louisiana and Eugene V. (and Martha) Erp, Greenwood, IN.; one sister, Lucille (and Arnold) Speaks, Somerset, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cassandra and Bandri Butcher; 2 step children, Megan Mize and Jesse Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, William “Jr.” Erp and Lonnie Ray Erp.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday November December 7, 2002 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Lonnie Sewell officiating. Burial will be in Whetstone Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Friday December 6, 2002 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Military honors will be given by American Legion Post #38.

John “Johnny” Orme, 51, Covington, KY., passed away Monday December 2, 2002 at St. Luke’s West, Florence, KY.

He was a son of Eunice Orme, Butler, KY. He was a truck driver for Firestone Building Supply Company and a member of Covington Baptist Temple in Covington, KY.

He is survived by his mother; three sons, Matthew Orme, Covington, KY., Chuck Hutton, Ludlow, KY. and Ricky Hutton, Covington, KY.; two daughters, Holly Orme and Kayla Orme, both of Covington, KY.; one brother, Southgate, KY.; one sister, Faye Hopper, Grant Co. KY.; 6 grandchildren; several brother-n-laws and sister-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Armilda Thompson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday December 6, 2002 at Don Catchen & Son Funeral home in Elsmere-Erlanger, KY. Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Fort Mitchell, KY. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. Thursday December 5, 2002 at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home.

 

 

Elsie B. Farmer, 94, Hyden Ridge Road passed away Friday November 29, 2002 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

She was born August 7, 1908 in Whetstone, Kentucky a daughter of the late Issac Phelps and Margaret (Snell) Phelps. She was a homemaker, who loved to cook and attended Providence Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Ray (and Donna) Farmer and Tommy Wendell Farmer, both of Somerset, KY.; one daughter, Joyce Dean (and Delano) Bradley, Somerset, KY.; two sisters, Sadie Rae Webb, Somerset, KY. and Nina B. Royston, Junction City, KY.; one grandson, Michael (and Marta) Farmer; one granddaughter, Connie (and Kenneth) Baker; one great grandson, Jason Scott Baker and a special friend, Rosalene Evans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Arthur Farmer whom she married in 1927 in Dykes Community and who passed away October 29, 1984; one son, Herschel C. Farmer; three brothers, William Lee and Floyd Phelps and 2 sisters, Barbara Phelps and Sitha Rachel Farmer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday December 2, 2002 at the Memory chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother J. S. New. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Sunday December 1, 2002 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Dawn Michelle (Hammel) DeBord, 39, North Hwy 39, passed away Thursday November 28, 2002 at her residence.

She was born January 21, 1963 in Lexington, KY. a daughter of Edward L. Hammel, Winchester, KY. and the late June (Jasper) Hammel. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her father; her fiancée’, Jesse Gentry; two daughters, April Adams, Florida and Kayla DeBord, Eubank, KY.; two brothers, Michael Hammel, McMicville, TN. and Mark Hammel, Winchester, KY.; one sister, Susan Blanton, Eubank, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Clara, Savanna and Aillaya.

Her mother precedes her in death.
