Donald
Ray Hughes, age 52 of the Keno community, passed away into the
care of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 27,
2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky in the
presence of his family.
He
was born on July 5, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to Patricia Levan
Day and the late Roy Hughes. Don formerly worked for many years in
Chicago and Somerset as a mechanic and brake specialist before
becoming a talented artist who took great joy in giving away his
art to his friends, family and others whom he surprised with his
generosity. He loved animals, ginseng hunting, the outdoors and
the mountains. He was a loving son and father. He was
a devoted member of Mt. Union Baptist Church in Keno, which he
served for many years. Everyone who knew Don will miss his
kind-heartedness, his sense of humor, and his strong desire to
always be of service to others.
Don
is survived by his mother and stepfather, Patricia (and Hubert)
Day of Somerset, KY; two sons, Mark (Amber) Sabin of
Wisconsin and David Hughes of Keno, Kentucky and a stepson, John
(Sunny) Bradford; two grandchildren, Autumn Sabin and John Sabin;
two sisters, Sherry (and Grant) Hornston of Somerset, KY and Tina
(and Billy) Bradford of Science Hill, KY; maternal grandmother,
Mary Levan of Somerset, KY; and an uncle, Jerry (and Pat) Levan of
Arizona.
Along
with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, David
Hughes; maternal grandfather, James Levan; and paternal
grandparents, Clarence and Tina Hughes.
Don’s
family will miss him dearly, as will many friends, neighbors, and
members of his church family.
Visitation
will be held on Sunday, October 30th at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Union
Baptist Church in Keno, Kentucky with his funeral service to
follow at 2:00 pm. Brother Perry Dobbs will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mt. Union Cemetery.
