Dorothy W. Roberts, age 91
of Somerset, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Lake
Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1919
to the late Lincoln and Martha Hansford Whittaker.
Survivors include her son,
Ritchie (and Lojuanna) Roberts of Somerset; daughter-in-law,
Sherry Roberts of Indiana; grandchildren, Dr. Steve Roberts and
Shannon Morris, both of Alabama; step grandchildren, Amy Jenkins
and Barry McKim of Indiana; seven great grandchildren; and a
stepsister, Lorene McGowan of Russell Springs, KY.
Along with her parents, she
is also preceded by her husband, Earl C. Roberts, whom she married
in 1940 and who passed in 1998 and her son, the Honorable J.
Wendell Roberts.
Mrs. Roberts was born at
home in Dabney, Ky. She was the last surviving graduate of the
first graduating class of Shopville in 1937. She graduated from
Cumberland College in 1939 and attended E.K.U. Mrs. Roberts
taught in a one room school at Pleasant View and also taught at
Hubble, Bobtown, and Science Hill Schools in Pulaski County. She
also taught at Bellview in Richmond, Cardinal Valley in Lexington,
and retired from Walton Verona School System in Walton, KY.
She was a charter member of
the Bethel Baptist Church and later in life attended the First
Baptist Church of Somerset, where she enjoyed watching the TV
ministry.
Visitation for Mrs. Roberts
will be Sunday, March 20th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the
Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
A Graveside service will be
held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 21st at the Bobbitt
Cemetery with Dr. French Harmon officiating.
