Dorothy J. Tarter, age 90 of Nancy, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on February 11, 1921 in Nancy, Kentucky to the late Ben and Minnie Dalton Baker.  She was a member of Mill Springs Fellowship Church.  She enjoyed gardening, embroidering and quilting.  Mrs. Tarter loved her church and her church family.  She was a loving mother and grandmother. 

Mrs. Tarter is survived by three daughters, Louise (and Gary) Stutesman of Goodland, Indiana, Nancy (and Leland) Burton and Barbara Tarter both of Nancy, KY; five grandchildren, Cindy Stevenson, Karen Burton, Linda Stutesman, Paula Tarter and Ashley Tarter; one great grandchild, Erica Nalle; and one great-great grandchild, Joslyn Nalle. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Tarter, whom she married on June 8, 1938; a son, Jimmy E. Tarter; three brothers, Lester, Chester and Estill Baker; and one sister, Rosa Burton. 

Visitation for Dorothy J. Tarter will be Wednesday, July 6, 2011 after 6:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Mark Rogers officiating.  Burial will be in the Burge Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Mark Rogers, Rodney Stevenson, Rodney Baker, Ronnie Dalton, Junior Baker and Eddie Dye.
