Ernest “Dale” Sharp

   February 11, 1925 - February 23, 2011

Mr. Ernest “Dale” Sharp, age 86 of Somerset, KY passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at V. A. Medical Center in Lexington, KY following an extended illness.

He was born on February 11, 1925 in Delmer, KY, the third son of William “Willie” and Flora Floyd Sharp.

Mr. Sharp is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ara Brock of 8 years; his daughter, Donna Lou (and Danny) Melton of Science Hill, KY; his sister, Kathleen (and Leon) Ring of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Marie (and Brad) Thomas of Russell Springs, KY and Mark Smith of Nancy, KY; two great grandchildren, Tyler Dale Smith and Cody Markus Smith of Nancy, KY; three stepchildren, Connie (and Bud) Gibson of Somerset, KY, Sue (and Jack) Shelton of Nancy, KY, and Teresa (and Jim) Cook of Lexington, KY; and five very special nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Floyd Sharp and Van Boyd Bresse Sharp; a sister, Ann Lois Sharp; his 1st wife, Delma Marie Brock in 1956; and his 2nd wife, Juanita P. Brock, whom he married in 1961 and died in 2002.

Dale Sharp grew up in Trimble. He served under General George Patton in WWII, having been in a tank with General Patton on two occasions. After the war he returned to the Trimble area where he established himself as a progressive farmer. He was also a very devoted and loving father, husband, and grandfather. In his later years, he and his wife Dorothy resided in Somerset. He expressed his faith as a Christian.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25th at 6:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral services for Ernest “Dale” Sharp will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 26th at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Chaplain O’Neal Wade and Bro. Jamey Epperson officiating.  Burial will be in Porter Barker Cemetery in Nancy, KY. The American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors for Mr. Sharp.
