Raymond Eugene Lankford November 21, 1921 - May 23, 2008
Mr.
Raymond Eugene Lankford, age 86, of Somerset, departed this life on
Friday, May 23, 2008 at his residence. He was
born on November 21, 1921 in Stanford, KY to the late William Porter and
Marguerite Lynn Lankford. He was the retired business owner of Crest
Electronics in Somerset and a member of the High Street Baptist Church.
He was a sailor in the United States Navy during WWII, stationed at
Pearl Harbor. He served on the ship SS New Orleans and fought in 17
battles in the South Pacific throughout the War. Mr.
Lankford is survived by his 2nd wife, Betty Pitman Lankford,
whom he married on December 13, 1997; two sons, Raymond Eugene (and
Joyce) Lankford Jr. of Nashville, TN and Robert Lee (and Sandra)
Lankford of Lexington, KY; a daughter, Elizabeth (and David) Lankford
Morris of Somerset; a brother, James Edward Lankford of Danville, KY;
seven grandchildren, Jeanette Lynn (and Randy) Lankford Raby of Lowell,
IN, Kellye Wood Lankford of Nashville, TN, Benjamin Wade Lankford of
Nashville, TN, Robert (and Joanna) Lankford Jr. of Lexington, KY, Stevie
Elliott-Morris (and Tyler ) Brown of Somerset, Blake William Morris and
Isaac David Morris, both of Somerset; five great grandchildren, Nicholas
Raby of Lowell, IN, Pamela Lankford and Annabelle Beeler, both of
Nashville, TN, Audrey Joan
and Jack Kendrick Lankford, both of Lexington, KY. Preceding
him in death were his parents, William Porter and Marguerite Lynn
Lankford, his 1st wife, Joan Northcutt Lankford, whom he
married on April 20, 1943; three children, William Joe Lankford and
infants Debra Ann Lankford and Janie Wood Lankford; a infant grandchild,
Allicia Ann Lankford; six brothers, Thomas Lankford, Lewis Zane
Lankford, infant twins, William and Robert Lankford, Carroll Lankford,
and Earl Lankford; and two sisters, Martha Lankford Broaddus and Alberta
Lankford Brady. Visitation
for Mr. Lankford will be Monday, May 26th after 6:00 pm and
then Tuesday, May 27th after 8:00 am until time for the
services at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 27th at 3:00 pm at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Sammie Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard of Somerset.
