Gary Wayne Ping, age 64 of
Somerset, departed this life on Friday, September 9, 2011 at his
home.
He was born on July 19,
1947 in Pulaski County, KY to Norma Roark Ping and the late Rector
Ping. Mr. Ping was retired from maintenance with the Lake
Cumberland Regional Hospital, a United States Army veteran of the
Vietnam War, and a member of the American Legion Post # 38 in
Somerset. He liked playing chess, fishing, and spending time with
his grandchildren. Mr. Ping attended the Acorn Church of God.
He is survived by his wife,
Wanda Morris Ping, whom he married on August 8, 1998 in
Williamsburg, KY; a son, Michael Wayne Ping of Cincinnati, OH; a
daughter, Vanessa Lynn Ping Boling of Somerset; his grandchildren,
Julia Boling, Jacey Boling, Amber Wilburn, Darrell Wilburn,
Stephan Hare, Alyssa Hare, Jonathan and Cameron Franks; five
sisters, Judy (and Charles ) Jones of Somerset, Dwana (and Larry )
Fisher of Somerset, Sherry Turner of Somerset, Michelle (and Tim)
Anders of East Bernstadt, KY, and Vicky Ping of London, KY; two
stepsons, Joe Franks and Johnny Franks; a stepdaughter,
Vickie Wilburn; and three best friends, Ron Nicholas, Porter
Bradley, and Gary Hudson.
Along with his father,
Rector Ping, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Thomas
Ping and Lindsey Ping; and two sisters, Cathy Ping Helton and
Doris Elaine Phelps.
Visitation for Mr. Ping
will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 14th at the
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with his funeral service to
follow at 1:00 pm. Chaplain Clarence Floyd will officiate. Burial
will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky. The
American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard will be conduct full military
honors for Mr. Ping.
The family requests
expressions of sympathy be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
