James Cothron

    June 21, 1924 - July 16, 2011

James Cothron, age 87 of Somerset, departed this life on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Rockcastle County Hospital in Mt. Vernon, KY.

Mr. Cothron was born on June 21, 1924 in Hartsville, TN to the late Jordan V. and Flora Linville Cothron. He was a self-employed merchant, former school bus driver for the Pulaski County School System, and a leasing agent for the Ikerd Bandy Coal Company. Mr. Cothron served as a Pulaski County Magistrate for 13 years. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving during the Normandy Invasion and a member of the American Legion Post #38 in Somerset. Mr. Cothron attended the Canyon Park Holiness Church.

Mr. Cothron is survived by four sons, David (and Christine) Cothron of Somerset, Jack Cothron of Franklin, IN, Joe (and Sheila) Cothron of Somerset, and Tim (and Ann) Cothron of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Peggy (and Dannie) Tucker of Somerset, Vicki (and Jesus) Rivas of Somerset, and Tina (and J.W.) Purcell of Science Hill, KY; eleven grandchildren, Brad, Shana, Jeff, Chris, Kyle, Morgan, Grayson, Daniel, April, Ben, Chandler, and Maddie; and thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, J.C. Cothron of LaFayette, TN and Fred Cothron of Jeffersonville, IN.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Taylor Cothron; two brothers, J.D. Cothron and Charlie Cothron; and a sister, Ruby Humphress.

Visitation for Mr. Cothron will be Monday, July 18th at 6:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 19th at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Grimes and Bro. Kevin Bullock officiating. Burial will be in the Whitaker Cemetery. The American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard will conduct full military honor for Mr. Cothron.
