James “Pop” Hornback,
age 82 of Somerset, departed this life on Sunday, April 17, 2011
at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on April 27,
1928 in Hardin County, KY to the late David S. and Minnie Johnson
Hornback. He was news butch selling newspapers and sandwiches on
the railroad between Somerset and Cincinnati, OH at the age of 12.
He worked around the Ferguson Shops and later for Hamilton
Electric Contracting before being hired by South Kentucky RECC.
Mr. Hornback retired in 1989 as maintenance supervisor for South
Kentucky RECC after 41 years of service. He was an active member
of Heritage Hope Church of God since 1948 and the former
Treasurer, Songleader, and Sunday School superintendent at the
church.
Mr. Hornback is survived by
a son, John S. Hornback of Somerset, KY; a daughter, Sharon L.
Coffey of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren, Amanda C. Cummins
(and Daniel), Charles Richard Mounce, Floyd Hardin Mounce, Larry
G. Mounce, Marita Gutierrez (and Jesus), Sandra Nicole Blevins
(and Daniel), and Susan Renee Hornback; thirteen great
grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Hornback of Princeton, IN.
Along with his parents, he
was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Green Hornback, whom he
married on September 20, 1957 in Rossville, GA; his loving
“Mom” who raised him, Josie Starkey; a son, James Martin
Hornback; an infant brother; four sisters, Florella Graves,
Idabell Hornback, May Worthan, and Nora Stillwell; and a
daughter-in-law, Charlene E. Hornback.
Visitation for Mr. Hornback
will be Wednesday, April 20th from 5-8 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
Funeral service will be
held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 21st at the Memory
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Dunbar
officiating. Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.
The family request
expressions of sympathy be made to the Heritage Hope Church of God
Building Fund.
