James Owens, age 79 of Nancy, KY formerly of the Slate Branch community, departed this life on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on February 14, 1931 in Somerset, KY to the late Ezra Epperson and Minnie Owens. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Allie Mae Parsley Owens, whom he married on January 10, 1961; two sons, Leroy (and Wanda) Owens of Nancy, KY and James Emery (and Thersa) Owens of Slate Branch; three daughters, Patty Buster (and Carrol Collyer) of Somerset, KY, Brenda (and Allan) Whitaker of Somerset, KY, and Clara (and Jesse) Stockton of Somerset, KY; his grandchildren, James E. Owens Jr., Dustin M. Owens, Harley G. Smith, Nina (and Ruben) Sears, Corinda (and Bill) Rowe, Misty Danille Whitaker, Cory Lemmon, and Keilahn Miller; great grandchildren, Whitley Smith, Christin Smith, and Allie Sears; five sisters, Sue Troxtle of Science Hill, KY, Martha Hill of Somerset, KY, Myrtle Bratton of Burnside, KY, Helen Bowling of Cincinnati, OH; and Wilma Palmer of Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Louise (and John) Jennings, Clara (and Gene) Hatcher, and Reda Neou; and three brothers-in-law, Samuel Parsley, Frank Parsley, and Rick Hines.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nina Buster; his brothers, Junior Owens, John L. Hill, Ralph Price, Hubert Owens, and Robert Owens; a sister, Ruby Hill; and two sisters-in-law, Irine Hines and Lorene Rogers.

Visitation for Mr. Owens will be Sunday, January 30^th at 6:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, January 31^st at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New officiating.  Burial will be in the Porter-Barker Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leroy Owens, James Emery Owens, James Emery Owens Jr., Dustin Owens, Harvey Jennings, and Ruben Sears. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Rowe, Christin Smith, and Keilahn Miller.
