James Short

    February 6, 1922 - May 6, 2011

James Short, age 89 of the Clifty Road community, departed this life on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Somerwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset.

He was born on February 6, 1922 in Jackson, KY to the late Elisha and Nancy Howard Short. Mr. Short had worked as a track drill operator for Don Molden Multiple Services. He was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church in Somerset.

Mr. Short is survived by four sons, Robert (and Sue) Short of Mt. Victory, KY, Arthur (and Charlotte) Short of Georgetown, KY, Hershel Short of Lexington, KY, and Blain Short of Lexington, KY; nine grandchildren, Melissa L. Parker, Robin Kay Bland, Robert L. Short Jr., Rebecca Kay Turner, Shelly Rennie Stevens, Karen Sue Swartz, James Michael Scott Short, Sonya Parker, and Thomas Parker; fourteen great grandchildren, Allison Lynn Wilburn, Brandon Wilburn, Chloe Swartz, Alyson Swartz, Kenzie Swartz, Austin, Ryan, and Gracie Short, Kayla Sue Bland, Steven James Bland, Lauren A. Stevens, Lindsey K. Stevens, Autumn S. Turner, and Emily R. Turner; and three great-great grandchildren, Aden, Macie, and McKenzie Parker.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Ritchie Short, whom he married on June 1, 1940 in Breathitt County, KY; an infant daughter; five brothers, Ike, Blain, Evan, Elisha, and Johnny Short; and two sisters, Ella Short and Chloe Short.

Visitation for Mr. Short will be Monday, May 9th at 6:00 pm at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 10th at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New officiating.  Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.
