Gilbert L. "Gil” Helton, 79, Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 27th, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky. 

He was born June 25th, 1923 in Pulaski County Kentucky, a son of the late Ebb Helton and Mary Myrtle Lowry. He was a retired insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co., member of Burnside Masonic Lodge No. 634 F &AM, a member of Scottish Rite 32nd degree, of Valley of Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Somerset, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Alpha Peggy (Tolley) Helton, whom he married on December 10th, 1951 in Georgetown, Kentucky; two daughters, Ruby Lee Helton Reeser Vedar and Vickie Lynn (and Michael) Cornell; one brother, Jesse T. Helton, Dixie Bend Community; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a godson, James F. Cornell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl R. Helton; one sister, Gladys E. Helton Miller Hill.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 31st, 2003 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother James Merkle officiating. Burial will be in Sloans Valley Cemetery, Burnside, Kentucky. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 31st, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Nancy "Lizzie" Mize (Bumgardner) Bradley, 96, Liberty Road, Eubank, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 27th, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born April 16th, 1906 in Wabb, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Robert Payne and Inez Maple (Barron) Payne. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church #2.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Clinton Mize, Eubank, Kentucky and L. V. Mize, Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Lottie Lee Lynch, Whitley City, Kentucky and Betty Faye Turner, Plantersville, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rothel Bradley; four children, Lonzo Mize, DeeRoy Mize, Coy Jack Mize and Zula Mae Bullock; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30th, 2003 at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Brother Delmar Whitter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. JoRetta G. Healy, 71, Woodland Grove Drive, Bronston, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25th, 2003 at her residence.

She was born August 5th, 1931 in Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of late Glenn D. Groves and Ethel Nemick. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Vernon D. Healy, Commerce City, Colorado and Glenn D. Healy, Grafenwohr, Germany; three daughters, Terry L. Hayen, Pueblo, Colorado, Karen S. Conrad, Bronston, Kentucky and Janet C. Laws, Wood River, Illinois; and one brother, Louis Nemick, Meadowbrook, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Patty Sanchez, Randy Blackwell, Tina Jackson, Christy Conrad, Mark A. Conrad, Jessie Stallings, Mary Jo Laws, Lisa Laws, Deanna Lynch and Michael Healy; six great-grandchildren, Kameron Sanchez, Chaycee Sanchez, Bryson Sanchez, Larissa Blackwell, Hannah Jackson and Tanner Stallings.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Vernon J. Healy.  

There will be no visitation. Funeral services and burial will be at a later date.

 

Clell Secen, 56, Felicity, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 24th, 2003 at his residence.  

He was born December 5th, 1946 in Pineville, Kentucky, a son of Matt Secen Sr. and Marie Lefevers, Somerset, Kentucky. He was a schoolteacher, holding a Master's Degree in Marine Biology, a concrete truck driver, a member of Linwood Masonic Lodge No. 567 in Ohio and a member of the Felicity United Methodist Church, Felicity, Ohio.

He is survived by his parents; his fiancee, Barbara Ann Hall, Felicity, Ohio; three brothers, Arnold, Ronnie and and Danny Secen, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; five sisters, Lisa Reese, Salt Lake City, Utah, Maureen Hughes and Debbie Secen, both of Somerset, Kentucky, Sandy Gadberry and Sharon Secen, both of Cincinnati, Ohio,; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Matt Secen Jr.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30th, 2003 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Johnny Phillips officiating. James B. Metz, 91, Ringgold Road, Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 26th, 2003 at Britthaven of Somerset.

He was born January 29th, 1911 in Frankfort, Kentucky, a son of the late Jesse Franklin Metz and Calla Cook. He was a tool and die machinist for a Buckles Machine Works and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, Somerset, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine L (Holloway) Metz, whom he married on December 16th, 1933 in Covington, Kentucky; one son, J. Dennis Metz, Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren, Richard Metz, Melissa Kordenback and Robert "Bobby" Metz; four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Metz; one brother, Robert Metz.

James Clay Cook, 75, Hickory Nut Road, Nancy, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25th, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born January 23rd, 1928 in Somerset, Kentucky the son of late Killis Cook and Sarah Ellen York. He was a United States Army World War II Veteran, a salesman, employed by Tarter Wrecking Yard, a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of Mt. Union Baptist Church, Nancy, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Carter Cook, whom he married on April 5th, 1950 in a Jamestown, Tennessee; one daughter, Pamela (and Hubert) Emerson, Nancy, Kentucky; three sisters, Aline Dye, Cincinnati, Ohio, Irene Gossett and Louise Gossett, both of Nancy, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Matthew Clay Lee and Makessa Nicole Lee; 3 step great grandchildren, Kaylan Morrow, Kenlee Johnson and Kyla Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Alfred Cook and Eugene Cook; one sister, Alice Dye.

Paul Mosley, 63, Ringgold Road, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 26th, 2003 at his residence.

He was born March 9th, 1939 in Hazard, Kentucky a son of the late Jim Mosley and Della Farmer. He was a paver operator fort Hinkle Contracting Corporataion, a member of the Burnside Masonic lodge #634 and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by one son, Vincent Mosley, Hamilton, Ohio; his fiancee, Riva Price, Somerset, Kentucky; one brother, Willy (and Frances) Mosley, Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Lucille Tankersley, Burnside, Kentucky and Paulene Johnson, Irvine, Kentucky; special friends, Fred Sawyer, Hamilton, Ohio and Ledford (and Anne) Langdon, Sebring, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Silas Mosley; one sister, Jane Goldson.

Hettie Marie (Young) Estes, 91, West Hwy 635, passed away Saturday, January 25th, 2003 at Britthaven Nursing Home, Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born March 6th, 1911 in Eubank, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Young and Lizzie (Ashley) Young. She was a homemaker and a member of the Polly Ann Church of God, Eubank, Kentucky.

She is survived by four sons, Ernest Estes, Forrest Junior Estes, James Estes and Fred Estes, all of Eubank, Kentucky; one sister, Verna Holt, Eubank, Kentucky; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dolphus Estes, who passed away on December 22nd, 1989; two brothers, Abe and Delbert Young; three sisters, Daisy Wesley, Maudie Higgins and Reda Haste; two grandchildren.

Opal Delilah (Hall) Morris, 85, East Todd Road, Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 24th, 2003 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was born February 16th, 1917 in a Lothair, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jonas L. Hall and Mary V. (Bond) Hall. She was a retired doughnut Packer and a member of Pulaski Baptist Church, Eubank, Kentucky.

She is survived by one son, Charles E. Morris, Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Doris McWilliams, Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Augusta Young, Orlando, Florida and Thelma Brooks, Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James R. Morris, whom she married on December 25th, 1936 and who passed away on August 5th, 1958; one son, Robert Eugene Morris.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 27th, 2003 at Pulaski Baptist Church with Brother Gary New officiating. Raymond Glenn Bray, 75, Ladson, South Carolina, passed away Sunday January 19, 2003 at his residence.

He was born June 29th, 1927 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, a son of the late Raymond Bray and Matilda Meece. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, retiring after 30 years of service, having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and a member of Clay Hill Baptist Church, Somerset, Kentucky. 

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Bray; one son, David (and Benita) Bray, Somerset, Kentucky; one daughter, Glenette (and Rick) Badgett, North Charleston, South Carolina; five brothers, Dewey Bray, Ferguson, Kentucky, Coy Bray, Louisville, Kentucky, Lowell Bray, Kingsport, Tennessee, Rothel Bray, Harrison, Ohio and Norman Bray, Little Miami, Ohio; one sister, Clyda Jean Jewell, Norwood, Ohio; three grandchildren, Christopher (and Cathy) Badgett, Summerville, South Carolina, Joshua (and Maria) Badgett, North Charleston, South Carolina and Katie Badgett, North Charleston, South Carolina; two step grandchildren, Ryan Cravens and Michelle (and Brian) Dalton; 3 great grandchildren, Tiffany, Daniel and Jonathan Badgett.

Eva B. McKinney, 74, Old Mt. Vernon Road, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, January 22nd, 2003 at her residence.

She was born November 7th, 1928 in Somerset, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Arthur Abbott and Elie Abbott. She was an inspector for Palm Beach Clothing factory and of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by her husband, Archie McKinney whom she married on December 23rd, 1956 in Stab, Kentucky; one son, Bruce (and Carol) McKinney, Frankfort, Kentucky; one brother, Roy Abbott, Somerset, Kentucky; one great grandchild, Jordan Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Arthur and Melvin Abbott; two sisters, Maggie Gallagher and Lexie Muffett.

Roxie Alene (Dalton) Ashley, 86, Hwy 70, Bethelridge, Kentucky passed away Sunday January 19, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

She was born September 25th,1916 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Edward Dalton and Emily E. (Wesley) Dalton. She was a homemaker and attended the Bethelridge United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Ralph Vernie Ashley, Bethelridge, Kentucky; three daughters, Margaret Helen Vest, Springdale, Ohio and Shirley Elaine McGinnis and Loretta Jean Brown, both of Bethelridge, Kentucky; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Mason and Stella Miller, both of Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ashley whom she married on February 16th, 1933 and who passed away on March 7th, 1985; two sons, Mark Junior and Charles Edward Ashley; two brothers, Stanley and Joe Thomas Dalton; five sisters, Pearl Mason, Nina Spears, Ruby Sears, Lottie Dalton and Beatie Dalton.

Bobby J. Bray, 64, Hwy 1003, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 at his residence. 

He was born November 26th, 1938 in Ula, Kentucky, a son of the late Arvin Lee "Red" Bray and Margaret (Mounce) Farmer. He was a United States Korean War Navy Veteran, a laborer for the United States Forest Service and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie (Baker) Bray and he married on February 10th, 1983 in Lafollette, Tennessee; one son, Robert M. (and Brenda) Bray, Martinsville, Indiana; one stepson, Dewey (and Melissa) Smith, Somerset, Kentucky; one daughter, Natalie Stewart, Somerset, Kentucky; four brothers, Billy Ray Bray, Indianapolis, Indiana, Glen (and Jeanie) Farmer, Somerset, Kentucky, Clifford (and Lou Ann) Farmer, Somerset, Kentucky and Vennie Farmer, Somerset, Kentucky; six sisters, Bessie Dykes, Somerset, Kentucky, Beulah (and John) Johnson, Ohio, Debbie Carpenter, Dayton, Ohio, Brenda Inman, Tennessee, Betty Chansler, Tennessee and Joann Bray, Danville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Nicky Stewart, Tara Stewart, Breanna Bray, Brittany Bray, Blake Bray, D. Daniel Boone Brock, 80, Hwy 1247, Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. 

He was born August 3rd, 1922 in Leslie County Kentucky, a son of the late Theo Brock and Parley (Caudill) Asher. He was a coal miner, logger and a member of Waynesburg Pentecostal Church, Waynesburg, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Christine (Leach) Brock; one son, Danny Brock, Lexington, Kentucky; three daughters, and Ozetta Tarter, Annette Brock and Ruby Brock, all of Eubank, Kentucky; one sister, Bessie Asher, Leslie County, Kentucky; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fanny Rose Napier Brock; one son, Donnie Brock; four brothers; several half brothers; three sisters and several half sisters.

Mary Frances Hall, 59, Sloans Valley, passed away Sunday, January 19th, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born April 3rd, 1943 in Somerset, Kentucky, a daughter of Fred Lee Silvers and Velma Lee Silvers. She was a seamstress supervisor for Palm Beach Clothing and a member of Camp Ground Baptist Church, Somerset, Kentucky.

She is survived by her husband, Roy B. Hall, whom she married on April 1st, 1961 in Somerset, Kentucky; her parents; one daughter, Angela June (and Michael) Grider, Somerset, Kentucky; three brothers, David (and Kathy) Silvers, West Chester, Ohio, Arnold (and Sue) Silvers and Donald Silvers, both of Somerset, Kentucky; one sister, Sarah (and Steven) Hall, Somerset, Kentucky; one grandchild, Kimberly LaRusch; 3 great grandchildren, Casey LaRousch, Cory LaRousch and Dennis Looney.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Dennis Hall.
