Joan Hargis Jones, age 78
of Somerset, KY, departed this life on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at
the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on September
3, 1932 in Ferguson, KY to the late Herschel and Ethel Sweeney
Hargis. Mrs. Jones was a retired patient aide for the Communities
of Oakwood. She was a member of the Glennwood Baptist
Church, where she was the pianist and very active in the church.
Mrs. Jones loved flower gardening and spending time with her
family.
Mrs. Jones is survived by
her two sons, Jimmie (and Cathy) Jones of Science Hill, KY and
Carl David (and Virginia, “Jenny”) Jones of Eubank, KY; four
grandchildren, James Edward Jones, Gregory Lynn Jones, Heather
Lynn Jones, and Holly Michelle Jones; a great grandchild, James
Tyler Jones; and a sister, Sharon Lee Stanifer of Ohio.
Along with her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Tiny” Jones,
whom she married on June 29, 1949 in East Somerset; an infant son,
Larry Dean Jones; two brothers, Charles Ray Hargis and Carl Parker
Hargis; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Hargis.
Visitation for Mrs. Jones
will be Wednesday, March 16th at 6:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
Funeral service will be
held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 17th at the Chapel
of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Williams
officiating. Burial will be in the Saline Cemetery. Pallbearers
for Mrs. Jones will be Donnie Jones, Edward Jones, Steve Jones,
Mike Walls, Tim Singleton, and Jimmie Jones.
The family requests
expressions of sympathy be made to the American Heart Assoication.
