Mr. Everett M. Frye, 77, Hwy 196 passed away Friday July 27, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born February 7, 1924 a son of the late Claude Frye and Viola (Gosser) Frye. He was farmer, a former employee of Crane Plumbing, retiring in 1984 and a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rose ( Hunley) Frye, whom he married on April 4, 1945 in Jamestown, Ky.; three sons, Roy Wayne (and Norma) Frye, Nancy, Ky., Dennis Dale (and Nancy) Frye, Orlando, Fl. and Bobby Edward (and Nia) Frye, Faubush, Ky.; one daughter, Lisa K. (and Rick) Merritt, Somerset, Ky.; one sister Velma Ard, Faubush, Ky.; 7 grandchildren, Danny Frye, Christopher Frye, Brandon Merritt, Shawn Frye, Brian Hunter Frye, Angie Frye and Kaitlyn Merritt and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Hobert and Kenneth Frye; two sisters Geneva Ellis and Sylvia Ard.

Charles Head, 68, of Alexander Road in Somerset, passed away July 26, 2001 at his residence.

He was born in Walnut Grove, KY, March 3, 1933, son of  Samuel Head and Jewell (Noe) Head. He was a Self-employed Heavy equipment operator, member of Oleika Shrine Temple and attended Woodstock Baptist Church in Somerset.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Etta (Prows) Head, his mother, two daughters, Winnetta (and Bobby) Turner of Lexington, Christina (and Joe) Miller of Somerset, a son, Steve Head of Eubank, a brother, George Eldon Head of Williamsburg, KY, a sister, Violet Price of Somerset, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, a son, Roger Terrell Head and a brother, Willie E. Head.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Woodstock Baptist Church in Somerset, with Rev. Doros Zachariades and Richard Walden officiating. Burial will be in the Woodstock Cemetery in Somerset. Friends may call after Friday 5:00 p.m. at Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, KY, until noon Saturday. James M. Bray, 81, of 1793 Hacker Road, Somerset, previously of White Lily, passed away July 24, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

He was born in Henry County, KY, February 9. 1920, son of the late Christopher Columbus Bray and Lily (Mounce) Bray. He was a retired custodian at Whit Lily Elementary School in Somerset, he also worked for Cumberland Stave Company, attended White Lily Baptist Church in Somerset where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ivadean (Cook) Bray, whom he married May 5, 1937 in Pulaski County, four sons, Howard (and Syble) Bray of Knoxville, TN, James H. (and Verna) Bray, Franklin (and Brenda) Bray, Bro. Edward (and Kathy) Bray all of Somerset, three daughters, Linda (and Bobby) Yarnell of Knoxville, TN, Janet (and Bro. Thurston) Mounce of Belize, Central America, Sandra (and Robert) of Somerset, a sister, Velta Marie Powell of Lenoir, TN,  nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, William and Delbert Bray, three brothers, Robert, Harold and Ruben Bray, three sisters, Alberta Bray, Leona Lamb and Della Barringer, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Dye whom she married on May 26, 1951  in Windsor, Kentucky; one daughter, Belinda Harness, Somerset, Ky.; one brother, Amos Baugh, Nancy, Ky.; three sisters, Ella Tarter, Nancy, Ky., Emma Francis Bray, Somerset, Ky. and Lorene Bennett, Nancy, Ky.; two grandchildren, Michelle Yadon (and Thomas) and Amy Taylor (and Jody) both of Somerset, Ky.; one great grandchild, Logan Andrew Harness Somerset, Ky.

Dewey Jones, 79, Temperance, Mich. formerly of Keno passed away Monday July 16, 2001 at Toledo Hospital in Ohio.

He was born August 26, 1921a son of the late Andrew Jones and Dizey Ann (Roberts) Neely Jones. He was a W.W.II US Army Veteran , a Crane Operator for Chrysler Tank Arsenal and a member of Zion Baptist Church in Wayne County.

Survivors include one son, Edmund Jones, Warren, Mich.; three daughters, Anna Lee McKee, Sloans Valley, Ky., Betty Jean Boyd, Mikado, Mich. and Deborah Jones Thiesen, Temperance, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, including 1 grandson serving in the Navy, one grandson in the Air Force and 1 grandson in the Marines and 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charline (Wilson) Jones whom he married on October 6, 1964 in Pulaski County; his parents; four brothers, Herbert, Sam, Melvin and Edgar Neely; seven sisters, Amy Young, Elsie Hammond, Sarah White, Rilda Robbins, Ethel Neely Jones, Josie Stringer and Gertie Jones.

She was born May 4, 1901 a daughter of the late Virgil M. Gover and Ethel (Waddle) Gover. She was a Nurses Aide and a lifetime member of the Ferguson United Methodist Church for 92 years, teaching Sunday School there for 50 years.

Survivors include one daughter Lucille Dykes, Chattanooga, TN; 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

He was Machine operator, President of Somerset Little League where he was involved as a coach for 10 or more years, Vice President of Babe Ruth League where he was a coach for 8 or more years and a member of Oakhill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Roberts) Bubnick, whom he married March 16, 1964 at Hyden, Ky.; two sons Amel Shannon (and Shelia) Bubnick Jr, Somerset, Ky. and John Franklin (and Cristy) Bubnick, Olive Branch, Miss.; one daughter Janie Bubnick, Eubank, Ky.; one brother, Louis Bubnick, Bronston, Ky.; two sisters Lena Miniard, Hyden, Ky. and Jane Adams, Lexington, Ky.; Tommy and France Bubnick, who were like brothers to him; 4 grandchildren, Austin, Amelia, Sydney Bubnick and William Meece.; several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Bubnick.

He was born in Denney, KY, September 10, 1929, son of the late John C. Alton and Kitty Hester (Denney) Alton. He was a Welder at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. for 15 years, he retired in 1981.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Jo (Fisher) Alton, whom he married June 2, 1956 in Elgin, Ill., two sons, Jerry Dean (and Donna) Alton of Manito, Ill., Brian (and Glenda) Alton of Oklahoma City, OK, two daughters, Wanda (and Ernesto) Mendosa of Greenville, TX,  Joyce Alton of Pekin, Ill., four brothers, Coolidge Alton of Cincinnati, OH, John H. (and Helen) Alton of Burnside, Thomas (and Juanita) Alton of Somerset, Austin ( and Diana) Alton of Burnside, a sister, Zina (and Roy) Rose of Somerset and nine grandchildren.

He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts, a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Olekia Shrines Temple, Somerset Masonic Lodge #111, Fraternal Order of Police, Lake Cumberland District Boys Scouts & Bluegrass Council. He received a Silver Beaver Award. He was a Pulaski County Deputy Sheriff and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two cousins, Gail Holt and Bill Highers, both of Somerset, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday July 6, 2001 at First United Methodist Church, Somerset, Kentucky. Burial will in Somerset Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday July 5, 2001, after 5:00 P.M., at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, then from Noon until time of funeral services on Friday July 6, 2001 at First United Methodist Church.

Sylvia Beshears Hughes Correll

March 26, 1920 - July 2, 2001

Sylvia Beshears Hughes Correll, 81, Magnolia Ave passed away Monday July 2, 2001 at her residence.

She was born March 26, 1920, a daughter of the late John Morgan Beshears and Iva Ard Beshears. She was a seamstress, homemaker, a member of Christian Women's Club, Newcomers Club, Governor's Pace Setters, a member of Tuttle's Chapel Methodist Church and attended Beacon Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her previous husband, Edwin Correll; two sons, David P. (and Robyn) Hughes, Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Terry (and Mary Ann) Correll, Henderson, Ky.; one daughter, Donna (and Bruce) Correll Davis, Nicholasville, Ky.; one sister, Sethel Weaver, Somerset, Ky.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (and Ryan) Cushing, Thomas Hughes, Danelle Davis, Justin Davis, Nathan Correll and Jacob Correll; four great grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Benjamin and Joshua Cushing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband, Clarence Hughes; four brothers, Herford, Harold, Bert and Wade Beshears; two sisters Dean Norfleet and Aliene Sturgell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M., Wednesday July 4, 2001 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Dr. John Mark Toby officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday July 3, 2001, after 6:00 P. M. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Edgar "Ed" Anderson, 73, Bullock Road passed away Saturday June 30, 2001 at his residence.

He was born April 27, 1928, a son of the late Dockie Allen Anderson and Lela Mae (Kidd) Anderson. He was a farmer , Forklift Operator and Truck Driver for the L.C. Henry / KY Framing Co. and attended the Cuba Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie (Carmack) Anderson; one son, Jack (and Kathy) Anderson, Lebanon, Ind.; one daughter, Sharon Willene (and George) Harris, Franklin, Ohio; one step son, Darrell (and Thelma) Bullock, Waynesburg, Ky.; four step daughters, Linda (and Donnie) Floyd, Waynesburg, Ky., Sandy (and Tracey) Valentine, Somerset, Ky., Leona (and Danny) Floyd, Eubank, Ky. and Wanda (and Tom) Gilmore, Centerville, Ohio; one brother Paul Anderson, Ohio; one special nephew, David Anderson, Science Hill, Ky.; 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; His 1st wife, Sadie Elizabeth (Calder) Anderson who passed away December 2 1970; one brother, Wilmer Anderson; two sisters, Mille Anderson Saylor and Lillie Anderson and one grandchild Jeffery Wayne Johnson. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 3, 2001 at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Brother Ray Arnold and Brother A. F. Atwood officiating. Burial will be in the Science Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday July 2, 2001, after 6:00 P. M., at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home.

Cathy Jo Goodin, 47, Pine Hill Road passed away Friday June 29, 2001 at her residence.

She was born January 25, 1954, a daughter of William Goodin and JoAnn Whitaker. She attended Norwood High School in Norwood, Ohio, graduated from Shopville High School in 1972 and the Bowling Green Business College in 1974. She was an employee of Kingsford Charcoal and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents; one brother Jeffery Lee (and Kim) Goodin, Somerset, Ky.; one sister, Cheryl Lynn (and Ricky) Clark, Somerset, Ky.; two nieces, Amber Nicole (and Brandon) Mullins and Kristina Michelle Goodin; two nephews, Richard Shawn Clark and Jeremy Kyle Goodin; one great niece, Justin Bailey Mullins.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday July 2, 2001 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Greg Ryan and Brother Coy Ridner officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday July 1, 2001 after 6:00 P.M. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Mellanie Whitis Ard

June 26, 1959 - June 29, 2001

Mellanie Ard, 42, of Hummingbird Lane in Somerset, passed away June 29, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born in Somerset, June 26, 1959, daughter of Delores Chaffin Whitis and Glen Whitis. She was a school teacher for Pulaski County School System, 1977 graduate of Pulaski County High School, graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a Masters degree and a member of High Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Autumn Renee Ard; her parents; one brother, Glen (and Michelle) Whitis and one sister, Melody (Jeff) Phelps, all of Somerset. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ard.

Funeral services are 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, with Bro. Chris Platt officiating. Burial in the Science Hill Cemetery.
