Margaret Sears Hughes, age
91, of Somerset, departed this life on Sunday, December 25, 2011
at the Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on April 6,
1920 in the Cabin Hollow community of Pulaski County, KY to the
late Edgar and Gertie Brown Sears. She was a homemaker and loved
quilting, gardening, and spending time with her family. Mrs.
Hughes was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by
two sons, Kenneth Wayne (and June) Hughes of Grand Junction, CO
and Winston Dennis (and Linda) Hughes of Goldsboro, NC; two
daughters, Barbara Sue Maultsby of Winston-Salem, NC and Linda
Louise (and Paul) Sercus of Bloomfield, NJ; fifteen grandchildren;
numerous great grandchildren; three special nieces, Sheila King,
Janis Baker, and Kristi Phillips; and a sister-in-law, Mary Sears
of Somerset.
Along with her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Hughes; four brothers,
Oda Sears, Arthur Sears, Noah Sears, and George Sears; and three
sisters, Emma Ping, Betty Goff, and Bula Goff.
Visitation for Mrs. Hughes
will be Wednesday, December 28th at 5:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home and then on Thursday, December 29th
from 12 Noon until time for services at the church.
Funeral service will be
held on Thursday, December 29th at 2:00 pm at the Cedar
Grove Baptist Church with Bro. David Baker officiating. Burial
will be in the Pitman Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes’ family would
like to thank Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the
loving care they provided the last two weeks of Mrs. Hughes’
life.
The family requests
expressions of sympathy be made to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church
General Fund.
