Mildred Whitaker, age 86 of Somerset, departed this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on April 7, 1925 in Somerset, KY to the late Charlie and Sladie VanHook Wright. Mrs. Whitaker was an excellent homemaker and member of the Bethany Baptist Church. She loved keeping house, traveling, and spending time with all of her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Jim (and Judy) Whitaker of Somerset and Tommy (and Diane) Whitaker of Somerset; three grandchildren, Lisa (and Bubby) Walker, Scott (and Jo Ellen) Whitaker, and David (and Misty) Whitaker; four great grandchildren, Emily Walker, Wesley Walker, Tyler Whitaker, and Austin Whitaker; and two sisters, Alfa Huddleston of Somerset and Geraldine (and Sonny) White of West Chester, OH.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orvis Whitaker, whom she married in 1942 in Jamestown, KY and passed away on March 23, 2002; three brothers, Junior Wright, Bill Wright, and Johnny Wright; and a sister, Faye Hargis.

Visitation for Mrs. Whitaker will be Friday, December 30^th after 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Bro. Noel Dodson and Bro. Kris Abser will officiate. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Bethany Baptist Church.
