He was born March 12, 1942 in Somerset, KY., a son of the late Hoy Spears and Flora (Harness) Spears. He was a Heavy Machine Operator and a Car Dealer.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Comley) Spears; one Step Son, Bill Simpson, Somerset, KY.; one daughter, Loretta Richey, Marion, IN.; one brother, Joe Spears, Somerset, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Michael David Richey, Kristopher Simpson and Murdock McKlain Simpson.

His parents, and one son, Clarence Lee Spears, Jr, preceded him in death.

Ruth Funk, 89, East Lakeshore Drive passed away Saturday November 23, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1913 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Frank Smithson and Fay (Gilbert) Smithson. She was a seamstress.

One son, Stanley Ritchie, Burnside, KY, survives her.

Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.

Lena Jane Price, 84, Old Bee Lick Road passed away Wednesday November 27, 2002 at her residence.

She was born March 15, 1918 in Bloss, Kentucky, the son of the late Bolin Bullock and Mary Bullock Bullock. She a homemaker, avid gardener and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Price whom she married on February 7, 1941; one son, Larry (and Ann) Price, Somerset, KY.; one daughter, Linda (and Eddie) Reynolds, Crab Orchard, KY.; 2 grandchildren, Melanie Reynolds and Michelle (and Josh) Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Logan Keith and Samuel Bailey Smith.

She was preceded in death by parents; three brothers, Logan, Rufus and Jessie Bullock; four sisters, Minnie McKinney, Alma Randolph, Lura Price and an infant – Lela.

Charles Michael “Mike” Davis, 51, Ferguson, KY., passed away Friday November 22, 2002 at Duke University Medical Center.

He was born August 29, 1951 in the Keno Community, a son of the late Arnold David and Rose Super Davis. He was a US Army, Vietnam War Veteran and a Welder and Metal Fabricator for Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Kay Kidd David whom he married on October 1, 1996 in Whitley City, KY.; four sons, Ricky (and Michelle) Mounce, Harding (and Joy) Mounce, Douglas (and Dana) Meadows and Dustin Meadows, all of Somerset, KY.; two daughters, Reesha (and Troy) Goodman, Winfield, TN. and Nessa (And Michael) Terry, Oneida, TN.; four brothers, Danny Davis and A.J. Davis, both of New Castle, IN., Larry Davis, Keno Community and Tony Davis, New Lebanon, OH.; two sisters, Patricia Johnston, Camden, OH. and Meryle Alsip, Ludlow Falls, OH.

His parents preceded him in death.

Potter Henry Langdon 87, Blue John Road, Burnside passed away Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He is born July 24, 1915 in Mosley Bend, Kentucky a son of the late Jasper Sr. and Margaret (Mosley) Langdon. He was a Coal Miner and a member of Blue John Baptist Church.

She was  born July 16, 1919 in Quail, Kentucky a daughter of the late Lacoe and Gertude (Vaught) Eastham. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ Faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Godsey, Science Hill, KY. and Joan Corbin, Somerset, KY.; one brother, Fred Eastham, Cincinnati, OH.; six grandchildren, Tony, Lisa, Jimmy, Angie, Becky and Bobby and ten great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Curt Hendricks; her second husband, Ferroll Haw; one brother, Ed Eastham and one sister, Lelia Roberts.

Millard Van Haggard, 73, Fairview Road passed away Friday November 22, 2002 at his residence.

He was born May 18, 1929 in Bethelridge, KY., a son of the late Arville Haggard and Dorothy E. (Wesley) Haggard. He was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Vina (Haste) Haggard, whom he married August 30, 1948; one son, Hobert (and Karen) Haggard, Science Hill, Ky.; one daughter, Loretta (and Ronnie) Sharp, Nancy, KY.; one brother, Glenn (and Charlcie) Haggard, Eubank, KY.; one sister, Iona Hall, Science Hill, KY.; one sister-in-law, Olife Haggard, Science Hill, KY. as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Beckman, whom she married on June 25, 166 in Cincinnati, OH.; two sons, Donald Beckman, Indiana and Richard Beckman, Jr., Cincinnati, OH.; one brother, Lee Dye, Somerset, KY.; three sisters, Lois (And Dencel) Gaines, Nancy, KY., Ruby (and Lowell) Norfleet, Michigan and Lucille (and Bill) O’Brien, Ohio, 2 grandchildren, Ryan Beckman and Dawn Marie Henderson; 2 great grandchildren, Brittany and Ronald Henderson and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Linda Evelyn Goldson, 83, Blue John community passed away Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born November 6, 1919 in the Blue John community a daughter of the late Charley and Ila (Losey) Walker. She was a retired foster grandparent for Oakwood and a member of Old Fashion Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, James Charles (and Sarah) Goldson, Burnside, KY., Lowell Thomas (and Doris) Goldson, Somerset, KY.,  Jerry Allen Goldson,  Somerset, KY. and Leroy Dean (and Linda) Goldson, Burnside, KY.; one daughter, Margaret L. (and Buddy) Langdon, Sloans Valley community; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Charlie B. Troxtell, 63, Brandon Street, Ferguson passed away Wednesday November 20, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born June 19, 1939 in the Kidder community, a son of the late Oliver and Trecia (Nevels) Troxtell. He was a retired maintenance worker for Oakwood and a member of Old Fashion Faith Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Lucille (Ragle) Troxtell whom he married on November 18, 1959 in Somerset; two sons, Charles W. (and Betty) Troxtell, and Mark W. Troxtell, both of Somerset, KY.; two daughters, Joy Dean (and Rodney) Turner and Nancy Sharlene Brown both of Somerset, KY.; two brothers, George Troxtell, Dry Branch community and Ronnie Troxtell, Bronston, KY.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Loretta Tucker.

Everett Lee Tucker, 61, Old Hwy 90 Bronston passed away Tuesday November 19, 2002 at his residence.

He was born December 5, 1940 in Russell County a son of the late Gilbert Gee Tucker and Roxy (Wilson) Tucker. He was a service station manager for Somerset Oil Station in Burnside.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy J. (McGaha) Tucker whom he married on August 8, 1959 in Jamestown, Kentucky; two daughters, Tina (and Michael) Adams Frankfort, KY. and Ginger Tucker of Bronston KY.; two brothers, Olen Tucker, Jamestown, KY. and Wendell Tucker Russell Springs, KY.; one sister, Rethel Fern Walters, Russell Springs, KY.; two granddaughters, Crystal Adams and Amanda Adams, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David Lee Phelps, 54, Chandler Street Somerset passed away Wednesday November 20, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born August 20, 1948 in the Beech Grove community a son of the late Obe Phelps and Celeste (Vaught) Phelps. He was an operator for the railroad, an avid pool player, and hunter and of the Methodist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret (West) Phelps whom he married February 5, 1983 in Tennessee; two sons, Terry Wayne West, Nelson Lee (and Genola) West both of Somerset, KY.; two brothers, Phillip Andrew Phelps, Science Hill, KY. and Felix Joel Phelps, Francesville, IN.; three sisters, Mary Anna Ryan, Science Hill, KY., Vera Alice Powell, Dayton, KY. and Miriam Ruth Bryant, Eubank, KY.; six grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, Kiesha, Quinton, Sabastin and Justin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Louis and Ovaton Eugene Phelps; a sister Euberta Maxine Phelps West.

David Lee Wilson, 48, West Hwy. 80 passed away Monday November 18, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional hospital.

He was born July 25, 1954 in Somerset, KY., a son of Hobert D. Wilson and Regina (Rainwater) Wilson. He was a 1972 graduate of Norwood high School, held as associate degree in Computer programming and was the author of the book entitled “ Success SYB Financial”, vice president of Operations for Kentucky Fried Chicken of Florida for 17 years, founder and owner of Catfish Café in Nancy, KY. and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his parents; his wife Christine (Horne) Wilson, whom he married April 21, 1982 in Georgia; one son, Kyle Wilson, Nancy, KY.; two daughters, Christy (and Adrian) Thomas, Jacksonville, FL. and Heather Wilson, Nancy, KY.; one brother, Bruce (and Sheila) Wilson, Nancy, KY.; tow sisters, Judith (and Leonard) Hatterman, Burnside, KY. and Holly (and Timothy) Robertson, Nancy, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Garret, Gracelyn and Gavin Thomas, all of Jacksonville, FL., several aunts and uncles; 9 nieces and nephews and one great niece.

He was born December 13, 1936 in Pulaski County  a son of the late Porter Bradley and Mary Margie (Hail) Bradley. He was owner and operator of Bill’s Radio and TV Repair, a graduate from Electronic School and a member of Clay Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Judith (Brinson) Bradley whom he married on May 24, 1958 in Ferguson, KY.; two sons, Michael S. (and Tina) Bradley and Marlin Joseph Bradley both of the Ruth community; one daughter, Cynthia G. Meece Somerset, KY; five brothers, Howard Bradley, Wayne Bradley, Dewey Bradley all of the Ruth community, Porter Bradley of Colo community and Bro Elwood Bradley of Monticello, KY.; three sisters, Marilyn Carmichael of North Carolina, Zelleen Ham of the Ruth community and Dale Cowan of Nancy, KY.; seven grandchildren, Brandon, William and Kevin Bradley, Patricia J. He was survived by his wife Agnes (Godbey) Kidd whom he married on June 6, 1940; one daughter, Patricia “Patti” Spurrell Waynesburg, KY.; one sister, Opal McDonald Monroe, MI; two step brothers, Grady Haught of Eubank, KY. and Bruce Haught Waynesburg, KY.; two step sisters, Margaret Padgett Waynesburg, KY. and Marjorie Measel of Arizona; two grandchildren, Edward Frank Kubiak and Penny K. He was born June 3, 1933 in Oneida, TN a son of the late John D. West and Angeline (Phillips) West. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and a Design Engineer.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph A. West, Somerset, KY. and David A. West, Science Hill, KY.; two daughter, Diana Ryan, Jupiter, FL. and Caroline S. Awada, London, England; one brother, Jack West, Michigan; six sisters, Belle Step, Pine Knot, KY., Clara West, Cincinnati, OH., Edith Yancey, Dayton, OH/. Rose Daltabuit, Cincinnati, OH. and Phyllis West, Cincinnati, OH.; 8 grandchildren, Melissa West, Shawn West, Adam, Thomas & Tracey Ryan, Fatima, Ali Joe and Noor Awada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Juanita Mae (Burchfield) West whom he married on April 11, 1952 and who passed away April 1, 1997; four brother, Woodrow, Richard, Ben and Andrew West; three sisters, Ella Collins, Mar Ward and Ruth West.

Harvey Shelley, 73, North Hubble Road passed away Sunday November 17, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born December 17, 1928, a son of the late Milton Shelley and Mary (Osborne) Shelley. He was a farmer and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lola Bernice (Roy) Shelley, whom he married on June 16, 1961; one son, Harvey Madison (And Kim) Shelley, Eubank, KY.; one brother Harlan Shelley, Eubank, KY.; one sister, Pearl Faw, Horse Cave, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Heather, Christopher and Haley Shelley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, George, Ernest and James Shelley; 2 half brothers, Milton and Alex Shelley; one half-sister, Flora Shelley Colyer.

Mrs. Dana Caudill, 86, of 806 Arcadia Somerset, formerly from Hazard Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born July 28,1916 at Mill Branch, Kentucky, a daughter of  the late Squire Whitaker and Ida (Hogg) Whitaker. She was a retired receptionist for the U. S. Forest Service, a graduate of Stuart Robinson High School and Fugazzi Business School, a weekly volunteer at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and a twenty-five year member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

She is survived by one son Robert D. (and Katy) Caudill of Naples, Florida; two daughters Betty C. (and Conroy) Hooper of Las Vegas, NV. and Patricia A. (and Jack) Pigman of Somerset; two brothers Neldon Whitaker of Roxana, Kentucky and James Whitaker of Inkster, MI; three sisters Mary Jane Davis of Anderson, SC, Ina Mae Ison of Somerset, KY. and Phyllis A. Gibson of Spanaway, WA; one granddaughter Sharon Kay Dubois; two grandsons Robert D. Caudill Jr. and Steven Pigman; three great grandchildren Mariah N., Jared P., and Ethan K. Dubois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hargis Caudill whom she married June 6, 1936 and who passed away on November 26, 1969; an infant son Larry Stephen Caudill; two brothers Narce and Kelly Reed Whitaker and one sister Marlie Whitaker.

Jeanette Miles Fields, 70, of Science Hill formerly of Cowan Ky, passed away Sunday November 17, 2002 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born February 8, 1932 a daughter of the late Riley and Carandie (Fields) Miles.

She was survived by six sons, Orvil Lee, Dennis, Jody, Leonard, Larry and Parnell Fields; five daughters, Regina Slone, Doris Kellogg, Angie Roberts, Pam Aumiller and Erma McIntosh; four brothers, Richard, Arnold, Riley and Danny; six sisters, Lois Tharp, Rosalee Earl, Shirley Jarrett, Elva Brown, Shelby Jean Sandlin and Annalea Maggard; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Obie Fields; two sons Corbin Dean and Alex Fields.

Ernest Wesley Shelley, 72, Cincinnati, OH., formerly of Eubank, KY. passed away Wednesday November 13, 2002 at Summitt Hilltop Manor in Cincinnati, OH.

He was born September 30, 1930 in Woodstock, KY. a son of the late Milt Shelley and Mary (Osborne) Shelley. He was a mechanic and a member of the National Guards.

She is survived by four daughters, Jean (and William) Slagle, Bristol, TN., Billie White, Lexington, KY., Betty (and Eugene) Tucker, Somerset, KY., and Jeanetta (And Howard) Cockrell, Hudson, FL.; one sister, Jessie Anders, Corbin, KY. 15 grandchildren, Carolyn Kegley, Norman Hunt, Peggy Burnette, timothy and Greg White, Pennye Wilcutt, Steve and Mark Tucker, Bruce Chowning, Denise Barnett, Michelle Friedman, Mary Sullivan, Nicholas, Paul and John Eve. 32 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. John M. Gatschenberger, 64, Fair Lawn Drive, passed away Tuesday November 5, 2002 at his residence.

He was born February 20, 1938 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of the late John Joseph Gatschenberger and Myrtle (Irwin) Gatschenberger. He was a Clinical Psychiatrist, holding a P.H.D from the University of Southern Mississippi and Vice-President of the Cumberland Heights Home Owners Association.

He is survived by one son, John (and Tiffany) Gatschenberger, III Shreveport, Louisiana.

Helen F. Turpin Moore, 72, Cincinnati, Ohio formerly of Pulaski County, passed away Sunday November 3, 2002.

She was born May 21, 1930 in Somerset, Ky. a daughter of the late James F. Turpin and Fanny Akers Turpin. She was a member of Carthage Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Austin L. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melissa Frances (Wesley) Wesley whom he married on January 13, 1942; two sons, Fred Edmond Wesley, and James E. “Jim” Wesley, both of Eubank, KY.; one daughter, Mahala Jane Meece, Science Hill, KY.; one brother, James Vernon Wesley, Yosemite, KY.; one sister, Hazel Wesley, Boswell, IN.; 2 grandchildren, Jamie T. Glenda Alice (Smith) Armes, 49, Oakridge, TN. passed away Friday November 1, 2002 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oakridge, TN.

She was born August 16, 1953 in Pulaski County, KY., a daughter of the late Roy B. Smith and Ruby Edith (Sneed) Smith. She was ahomemaker and a member of the Covington Baptist Church in Tennessee.

She is survived by a special friend, Geary McPeters on Tennessee; two sons, William Lee Smith and Eulin Dale Smith, both of Lexington, KY.; one daughter, Goldie (and Tim) Harrill, Powell, TN.; five sisters, Velma Mae Smith, Peggy (and Ronald) Spence, Goldie Marie Allen and Faye (and Bobby) Carroll, all of Cincinnati, OH. and Imogene (and Jack) Spence, Lexington, KY.; 5 grandchildren and 1 step grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ervin Junior Smith; one sister, Joyce Kaye Smith.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday November 5, 2002 at the Bethelridge United Methodist Church with Brother mark McGee officiating. John Logan Hargis, 75, East 452, passed away Friday November 1, 2002 at lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born December 24, 1926 in the Bobtown Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky, the son of the late James Henry Hargis and Sarah Jane (Whitter). He was a retired saw mill worker and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou (Moore) Hargis, whom he married on January 19, 1945 in Crossville, TN.; two sons, Roy Wayne (And Ann) Hargis, Hustonville, KY. and Johnnie Ray (and Bonnie) Hargis, Somerset, KY.; four daughters, Sarah Ann Hargis, Somerset, KY., Martha Marie (and David) Murphy, Burnside, KY., Vickie Sue (and Jerry) Smiley, Somerset, KY. and Nancy Darlene Godbey, Somerset, KY.; one sister, Martha Nancy Thompson, Indiana; 16 grandchildren, Mary Jane and Andy Hargis, Dale and John Robert Phelps, Samantha, Bonnie, Jerri Beth, Kevin Lee, John and Jerry Wayne Smiley, Zachary and Everett Goodin, Ashley, David Brandon and Dustin Murphy and Linda Jones; 2 great grandchildren, Paige Phelps and Nathan Sears.

Ernest “Art” Pennington, 74, Hwy. 192 passed away Friday November 1, 2002 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

He was born January 16, 1928 in Cutshin, KY. a son of the late Bradley Pennington and Nannie (Calahan) Pennington. He was a retired factory worker at Cumberland Wood & Chair, Somerset, KY. and of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry (and Charlotte) Pennington, Somerset, KY., Larry (and Pam) Pennington, Winchester, KY. amd Roger (and Vickie) Pennington, Somerset, KY.; four brothers, Eugene Pennington, Wooten, KY., Ed Pennington, Berea, KY., John Pennington, Berea, KY. and Bradley Pennington, Berea, KY.; three sisters, Mavie Joseph, Leslie, Co. KY., Goldie Bailey, Berea, KY. and Alphie Bowman, Brookville, IN.; five grandchildren, Kim Utt, Pamela Beaver, Lucas Pennignton, Joshua Pennington and Tracey Pope and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Andy, Isaac, Jimmy, Felix and Kenneth Pennington.

Elsie Geneva (Smith) Combest, 72, Ridgewood Drive, passed away Tuesday October 29, 2002 at her residence.

She was born June 8, 1930 in Cob Hill, KY., a daughter of the late Everett Smith and Lillie (Hall) Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairborn Church of Christ in Fairborn, OH.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Hines, Hillsboro, OH. and Geneen Cox, North Pole, AL.; one sister, Wilma Pizarro, Winton, CA.; three grandchildren, Jim Hines, Greg Hines and Adria Hines; 3 great grandchildren, Hayden, Uriah and Ethan Hines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claude Glen Combest, whom she married on February 24, 1951 and who passed away June 18, 1995; two brothers, Julius and James Smith.
