Oscar Campbell March 22, 1920 - August 18, 2008
Mr.
Oscar Campbell, age 88 of Nancy, KY, passed away on Monday, August 18,
2008 at the Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was
born on March 22, 1920 at Cains Store, KY to the late Herbert and Bertha
Rainwater Campbell. He was a brick and stonemason, builder, and farmer. He served
in the United States Army during WWII and was an active member of
Jennies Chapel Methodist Church. He always visited and shared with all
area churches for the furthering of Christ and the faith. Oscar was an
Adult Sunday School teacher for fifty years. He was a Kentucky Colonel
and a member of the Home Builders Association. He was recently honored
as Resident of the Month July 2008 at Somerset Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center. Some of
his hobbies included gospel music, nature, farming, friends, and
community. He also loved to travel and enjoyed family picnics
celebrating family ties, history of family and country. Oscar’s
special love was working on area churches doing brick and stonework and
seeing the building trades develop beautiful houses for the community.
He was a devoted father and friend. Mr.
Campbell is survived a daughter, Janet C. Rainwater of Nancy, KY; two
stepsons, Steve (and Chris) Taylor of Owensboro, KY and Gary (and Sue)
Taylor of Bowling Green, KY; a grandchild, Jina Kaye Ray (and Jim)
Brummett of Burnside, KY; four step grandchildren, Josh and Jared Taylor
of Washington State, Alex Taylor of Bowling Green, KY and Dylan Taylor
of Florida; two great grandchildren, Jessica Yevone Ray and Jacob
Campbell Brummett; and three step great grandchildren, Jared Tanner
Brummett, Jadyn Tyra Brummett, and James Brandon Brummett. Preceding
him in death were his parents; Herbert and Bertha Rainwater Campbell;
his 1st wife, Latrieve Compton Campbell; and 2nd
wife, Lelia Jasper Campbell. Visitation
will be Wednesday, August 20th after 5:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80 Somerset, KY. Funeral
service will be held Thursday, August 21st at 11:00 am at the
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Shannon Cain
officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan or the Jennies Chapel Church Cemetery Fund.
