Ray Hoskins

Ray Hoskins, age 83 of Monticello, KY departed this life on Monday, January 10, 2011 at his home in Monticello, KY

He was born on June 10, 1927 in Leslie County, KY to the late Mac Bowling and Dealie Hoskins Garrison. Mr. Hoskins served in the US Army 82nd Airborne during World War II in Germany.  Mr. Hoskins was a musician. As a Bass Player, he won the 1969 Best Bluegrass Band and Bluegrass Music with the Cody MT. Boys at Old Fiddlers Convention in Durham N.C. Mr. Hoskins had his own band called the Bluegrass Meditations.  He was the first inductee in the Osborne Bros. Bluegrass festival Hall of Honor. Mr. Hoskins also has been known to have been on the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe, Porter Wagner and String Bean and also played in the original Skaggs Family Band, Osborne Bros., and the original Stanley Bros. with Carter and Ralph Stanley. He has been playing music since he was twelve years old and made many friends in the music business. Mr. Hoskins was a member of Steubenville Baptist Church in Monticello, KY and a Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Ray Hoskins married the late Maxine Hoskins on November, 26 1956 in Jellico, Tenn. From this union there were eight children, Charles (and Rhonda) Hoskins of Somerset, KY, Monroe (and Shirley) Hoskins of Somerset, KY, Dallas (and Lana) Hoskins of Monticello, KY, Roy Hoskins of Somerset, KY, Ronnie (and Rosa) Hoskins of Somerset, KY, three daughters; Barbara (and Mickey) Steele of Indianapolis, Indiana, Aileen (and Rick) Conatser of Burnside, KY, and Dealie (and Curt) Conatser of Burnside, KY. He is also survived by one brother, Walter Garrison of Baxley, GA; three sisters: Geraldine Williamson of Sevierville, Tenn., Ada Haymans of Macon, GA, and Joyce Gladney of Sevierville, Tenn.; twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.  

Mr. Ray Hoskins is preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers Humphrey Garrison and Glenn Garrison.

Visitation for Mr. Ray Hoskins will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 6:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80 Somerset, and KY 42503.

Funeral Service for Mr. Ray Hoskins will be held on Wednesday , January 12th at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Elmer Oakley and Robby Cable officiating. Burial will be at Mount Mariah Cemetery in the Swiss Colony Community in London, KY. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard Post # 38.
