Ruby Lenora Mounce Hughes

December 6, 1924 - August 9, 2008

Ruby Lenora Mounce Hughes, 83, of Ringgold Road in Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab.

She was born in the Elihu, Cabin Hollow community in Kentucky on December 6, 1924, daughter of the late Logan and Bertha Godby Mounce.  She was a homemaker and attended several churches over the past few years when she was able to go.  She enjoyed singing gospel music and would entertain anyone who would listen, with her favorite song, "Thank You Lord For Your Blessings On Me".  She loved going places and just taking long rides to see old familiar places of her past.  She had a great sense of humor and was always the "fun mamaw".  She would do anything her grandchildren wanted, whether it was crawling around on the floor, going to yard sales or sliding down the stairs just for a laugh.  She told some great stories and always wanted to have a good time.  All her grandchildren will always love and miss her.

Ruby married Oliver Hughes of the Strawberry Community on June 16, 1942. They were blessed by five daughters, Lovine Frances & (Leon) Wilson, Sandra Sharon & (Donald) Hunt, Marcella & (Bill) Hiter, Charlene Kay Hughes and Sylvia Elaine Hughes.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcella & (Bill) Hiter of Cincinnati, OH,
eight grandchildren, Connie & (James) Hancock, Jamesetta & (Terry) Haste, Becky & (Dewayne) Mofield, Samantha & (Doug) Hancock, J.L. & (Amy) Wilson and Karen & (Bobby) McClure, all of Somerset, Troy & (Rachel) Hunt of Rossville, GA and Rickey & (Lacy) Hiter of Florence, KY, fifteen great-grandchildren, Maggie Frances Hancock, Shane Haste, Darren Mofield, Dallas Mofield, Zachary Hancock, Austin Wilson, Halie Wilson, Shawn McClure, Amber Mclure & (Joe) Williams, Holly Hunt, Katie Hunt, Raven Hunt, Tory Hunt, Kayla Baynum and Samantha Ann Hiter and four great-grandchildren, Brayden Williams, Kaylie Williams, Candice and London.  Ruby leaves behind a host of friends, nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Hughes, her parents, four
daughters, Lovina Frances Wilson, Sandra Sharon Hunt, Charlene Kay Hughes and Sylvia Elaine Hughes, three brothers, Melvin Mounce, Floyd Mounce and Chester Mounce, three sisters, Cora Ramsey, Roselle Hall and Dorothy "Dottie" Hughes Meadows and one great-granddaughter, Billie Jo Baynum.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday, August 11, 2008 at Morris &
Hislope Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Pitman Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
