Ruth
Anna (Johnson) Roy, age 80, was born in Vinnie, KY, on December
29, 1930, to Otha Greene and Clara (McClendon) Johnson. She
departed this life on May 19, 2011, at her residence in Vinnie,
KY, surrounded by her family.
Mrs.
Roy is survived by her three children, Mary (and Tommy) Ard and
Lowell Gene (and Sherry) Roy of Faubush, KY, and Donna Sue (and
Joe) Little of Russell Springs, KY; five grandchildren, Wendy (and
Dale) Mote, Eric Roy, Dustin Ard and Ashley (and Jordan)
Maffett of Faubush, KY, and Michael Little of Russell Springs, KY;
five great grandchildren all of Faubush, KY. She is also
survived by a very special friend and her physician, Dr. David
Booth.
Along
with her parents, Mrs. Roy is preceded in death by her husband,
Eugene Roy, whom she married on February 3rd, 1951, who
passed from this life on January 2, 2000. She was also
preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs.
Roy was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, a retired cook
from Jabez School, and a homemaker. Her favorite pastime was
stitching quilts.
Mrs.
Roy was the first woman and second recipient of a heart transplant
at the University of Kentucky Medical Center on June 21, 1991,
with Dr. Michael Sekela and Dr. David Booth as her attending
physicians.
Visitation
for Mrs. Roy will be Sunday, May 22, 2011 after 6:00 pm eastern
time at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80,
Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral
will be Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00 am eastern time at the
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Paul W. Wilson
and Brother Paul D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in
Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
