Samuel Edward King, age 83
of Burnside, KY departed this life on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on September
28, 1927 in Weeksbury, KY to the late Clarence W. and Lois B.
Taylor King. Mr. King was a graduate of the Martin High School,
FBI Academy, State Police Academy, and Southern Police Institute
at the University of Louisville and holding Associate and
Bachelor’s Degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a
United States Navy Machinist Mate 3rd Class, receiving
an Honorable Discharge on July 29, 1946. Mr. King was a member of
the Zebulon Masonic Lodge #273 of Wheelwright, KY and of the
Baptist faith.
Mr. King was a fireman and
engineer with C & O Railroad, a Kentucky State Police Officer
from 1954-1982. He retired in 1982 having attained the rank of
Captain serving with Professional Services Branch, Inspections,
Frankfort, KY. He also served at the Pikeville, Ashland, London,
and Harlan State Police Posts. He was employed as a Motor Vehicle
Dealer Administrator with the Motor Vehicle Commission in
Frankfort, KY from 1982 until September 30, 2010. Mr. King and his
wife owned and operated King’s Drive-In in Burnside for many
years.
Mr. King is survived by his
a son, Shawn E. (and Joni) King of Ferguson, KY; a daughter,
Cynthia L. (and Dwight) Marcum of Burnside, KY; and four
grandchildren, Corey E. Marcum of Burnside, KY, A. Michelle Marcum
of Burnside, KY, Shawn Eric King II of Ferguson, KY, and Jordan M.
King of Ferguson, KY.
Along with his parents, he
was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Branham King, who passed
away on June 13, 1981.
Visitation for Mr. King
will be Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home with the Burnside Masonic Lodge #634
conducting Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm.
Graveside service will be
held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 6th at the
Burnside Cemetery with Bro. Raymond Hail officiating. Pallbearers
for Mr. King will be Jim McWhorter, Earl Hicks, Hobert Hall, Ray
Britton, Doyle Stogsdill, and Ralph Stogsdill.
