Stanley
Standafer, age 89 of Bronston, Kentucky, departed this life on
Friday, December 9, 2011 at his residence.
He
was born in Perry County, Kentucky on August 20, 1922 to the late
Green and Dutch Melton Standafer. He was owner/operator of
Stan’s Transmissions. He was a member of the Bethlehem
Baptist Church in Nancy, Kentucky. He served in the United
States Air Force during the WWII era as a member of the 401st
Bombardment, 615th Bomb Squadron in Germany. He served
65 missions in Germany as a tail gunner. Mr. Standafer
served 12 years in the service when he left the Air Force in
Alaska, where he lived thirty years. He is one of the few
remaining WWII veterans.
He
is survived by his wife, Arlene McComas Standafer, whom he married
on March 25, 1961 in Soldotna, Alaska; a step-son, Mike (and
Debbie) McComas of Alaska; four daughters, Karrie
(and Bob) Ferrell of Alaska and Doris Sullivan-Huck(and Bob) of
North Carolina, Nancy (and Galen) Rupe
of Alaska and Aimee (and David) Jamison of Bronston, KY; many
grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few great-great
grandchildren; a brother, Otis Standafer of Hazard, KY; two
sisters, Carrie Caudill of Jeff, KY and Maxine (and John) Riddle
of Nancy, KY; and many special friends.
He
was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation
will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 after 6:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral
service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 am at
the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Larry
Harris officiating. Burial will be in Bronston Cemetery.
