Sylvia McAlister, age 96 of Somerset, KY, departed this life on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

She was born on September 5, 1914 in Public, KY to the late Ben and Sara Phelps Hawk.  Mrs. McAlister was a longtime member of Sinking Valley Baptist Church.  She was a housewife.

Mrs. McAlister is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (and David) Stevens of Eubank, KY and Beverly (and Dale) Meece of Somerset, KY; fourteen grandchildren, Max Harper, Marsha Harper, Pam Harper, Jimmy Allen McAlister, Karen Wallace, Kathy Inabnitt, David Mink, Shelia Bullock, Brad Mink, Jane Baldwin, Michael Mink, Scott Stevens, Shane Stevens and Chris Meece; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Farmer and Edith Price; and one brother, Lenzie Hawk.  

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McAlister; a son, Delvis McAlister; two daughters, Pauline Harper and Ruby Mink; a brother, Leonard Hawk; and three sisters, Beulah Inabnitt, Eva Wardwell and Alta Blair.  

Visitation for Sylvia McAlister will be on Saturday, July 2, 2011 after 6:00 at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Bradley Goforth officiating.  Burial will be in the McAlister Family Cemetery.
