Troy
Cowan, age 93 of Whitley City, Kentucky, departed this life on
Saturday, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He
was born on July 28, 1918 in Kidder, Kentucky to the late James W.
and Annie Hardwick Cowan. He served in the United States
Army during WWII in France, West Virginia and Alaska. He was
of the Baptist faith. He was a self-employed truck driver.
He
is survived by a son, Troy Michael “Mike” Cowan of Whitley
City, KY; two special daughters, Ruth Ann Thompson of Burnside, KY
and Violet Dyer of Somerset, KY; two grandchildren, Matthew Troy
Cowan and Keith Jacob Cowan; one great grandchild, Noah James
Cowan; one brother, Grover (and Phyllis) Cowan of Seattle,
WA; thirteen special nieces and nephews, Charles (and Judy),
James, Kenneth (and Janie), Ruth Ann (and Cressel), Lloyd (and
Mary), Jimmy (and Gayla), Sue (and Larry), Patsy (and Lewis),
Bruce, Steve (and Debbie), Dana (and Pam), Patricia and Suzelle.
Along
with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal
Vaughn Cowan, whom he married on August 19, 1956 in Rossville, GA;
a grandchild, James Kerry (Jamie) Cowan; four brothers, Charlie
(and Alma) Cowan, Olen (and Denney) Cowan, Estel (and Hettie)
Cowan and Robert Cowan; and one sister, Monta Steigerwalt.
Visitation
will be Wednesday, September 14, 2011 after 6:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral
service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:00 noon
at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Kenny McKinney
and Brother Larry Butte officiating. Burial will be in the
Mill Springs National Cemetery. American Legion Post #38
will conduct full honors. Pallbearers will be Bruce Watters,
Jeff Kidd, Bradley Coffey, Larry Wesley, Bruce Cowan, Eddie (Bear)
Stephens, Terry “Tank” Lawson and James Ball. Honorary
pallbearers will be J. P. Meadows, Billy Hayes, Kenneth Cowan,
Richard Billingsley, Darrell King, Ronnie Vaughn, Dexter McKinney,
Tim Stephens, Boris Haynes, Leslie Cowan, Ginny Rohrback,
Katherine Thompson, Herb Lucas, Mikey Pennington, J. Bill Sosh,
Andy Anderson and Steve Cowan, as well as all Wal-Mart drivers and
personnel from Mike’s Wal-Mart family at London, Kentucky and
Midway, Tennessee.
The
family request expressions of sympathy be made to the Gideon

McCreary County Health & Rehab.
