Vella Catherine Roy, age
80, widow of John Marion Roy, passed away on Wednesday, December
14, 2011 at her home in Somerset.
She was born on July 5,
1931 in Laurel County, KY to the late William Riley and Martha
Rachel Crowder Floyd. Mrs. Roy retired from Walmart and returned
as door greeter where she was quick to give an easy smile. She
loved to laugh. Mrs. Roy attended Maranatha Baptist Church
for many years until her health declined.
Mrs. Roy is survived by her
two daughters, Lana West of Berea, KY and Carol (and Phillip) Lane
of Somerset; a stepdaughter, Geraldine Nicholas of Dayton, OH; a
stepson, Ralph (and Pat) Roy of Somerset; three grandchildren,
Jennifer Watts, Travis (and Lydia) Lane, and Emily (and Tyler)
Waddle; seven step grandchildren, Debbie (and Jack) Morgan, Penny
(and Jimmy) Caudill, April (and Charles) Hughes, Brent Roy, Johnny
Roy, Brenda (and Joe) Brizzolara, and Michael (and Lynn) Roy; two
great grandsons, Jordan Hawkins and Josiah West; seventeen step
great grandchildren; nine step great-great grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her precious dog, Bandit;
her sweet neighbor, Burniece Scott; best friend, Betty Jo Adams;
and caregivers, Denise Dailey and Phyllis Walbeck, her niece.
Along with her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, John Marion Roy, whom she
married on July 6, 1950 in Somerset; four brothers, Other, Elvie,
and Elsie Floyd, and Don Polly; two sisters, Mae Martin and Lola
Estes; and a step grandson, Mark Roy.
Visitation for Mrs. Roy
will be Friday, December 16th at 6:00 pm at Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
Funeral service will be
held on Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 am at the
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Darvie Fension
and Bro. Jordan Begley officiating. Burial will be in the
Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, off Clifty Road in Somerset.
Mrs. Roy’s pallbearers will be Travis Lane, Bobby Cox, Tyler
Waddle, Charles Hughes, and Phillip Lane.
The family requests
expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland
and/or Pulaski County Humane Society.
