Dr. William O. Massey, M.D.

    April 7, 1931 - November 2, 2011

Dr. William O. Massey, M.D., age 80 of Russell Springs, Kentucky, formerly of Burnside, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on April 7, 1931 in Robertson County, Kentucky to the late Augustus Bruce and Anna M. Claypoole Massey.  He was a medical doctor in the field of family practice.  Dr. Massey had lived in this area since 1960, having previously resided in Robertson County, Mt. Olivet, Kentucky and Perry County, Hazard, Kentucky.  He opened his solo practice in Burnside, Kentucky where he remained for 50 years until retiring in 2010.  He was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Casey County.  Dr. Massey was a past President of the Pulaski County Medical Society.  He served many years on the Board of Kentucky Rural Scholarship Fund.  He was a former Chief of Staff at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  Dr. Massey was a Kentucky Colonel.  He was a past vice-president of the Gideons.  Dr. Massey made two mission trips to Costa Rica.  He was an avid farmer and agricultural and livestock enthusiast.  Dr. Massey was a graduate of Deming Mt. Olivet School.  He attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry.  He was a 1958 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine.  He completed his general medicine internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. 

Dr. William O. Massey, M.D. is survived by his wife, Georgia A. Thomas Massey, whom he married on June 8, 1956 in Shepherdsville, Kentucky; a son, Dr. William David (and Stephanie) Massey of Windsor, KY; two daughters, Dr. Deborah (and Marion) Eyre of Louisville, KY and Rebecca (and Dave) Wallis of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Eleanor Georgia Eyre and Jackson Lee Wallis; and two sisters, Marilyn Berry of Mays Lick, KY and Carolyn Brayfield of Maysville, KY. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Robert Berry of Mays Lick, KY and Bill Brayfield of Maysville, KY. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 3, 2011 after 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Ulanda Price and Brother Ensley Wright officiating.  Entombment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Martin Thomas, Jimmy Gosser, Tommy Canada, Andrew Canada, Jonathan Thomas, Matthew Thomas, John Bruce Berry and Robert Michael Berry.  Honorary pallbearers will be all Pulaski County physicians.
