Shirley Syphax, age 82 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
She was born on March 6, 1943 in Harlan, Kentucky, daughter of the late George and Mary Spurlock Dean.
She was a member of Science Hill Christian Church. She enjoyed reading novels, traveling, gardening, and she was an amazing cook. Most of all, she loved and cherished her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Steven Syphax, Jr; and sisters, Pauline Dean and Georgetta Rivers.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Cynthia Ann) Syphax of Orlando, FL and James Stephen Syphax of Cincinnati, OH; brothers, Leroy (Joyce) Dean of Dryden, VA and Delano (Gail) Dean of Goshen, OH; sisters, Ruth Hogue of Dryden, VA and Jennie Dean Duffield, VA, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.
