Howard Floss, age 79, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Howard was born on June 15, 1946, in The Bronx, New York, the son of Julius and Shirley Sherman Floss of The Bronx, New York.
Howard attended the Park Ridge, New Jersey school system and graduated in 1964. He later earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Howard devoted many years to teaching in the Kentucky school system, where he was well liked and respected by his students.
Howard was a devoted husband to his late wife, Sue Wright Floss, with whom he shared a deep love and companionship. Together, they enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, and Howard remained endlessly curious about the world around him throughout his life.
In more recent years, Howard focused on public speaking, humor, and writing, specializing in anger management. He was a published author with works available on Amazon and content shared on YouTube.
Howard greatly enjoyed farming, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and being in nature. He also loved horses, boating, and the outdoors. An avid Scrabble player, Howard especially cherished his regular breakfast gatherings with friends. A caring and loving individual, Howard was a man of strong faith and an active member of The Potter’s Place Church and First Christian Church.
Howard is survived by his sisters, Marliene Koberg of Lexington, South Carolina, and Sandra Mealia of Paramus, New Jersey; his brother, Larry Floss of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania; his son, Christopher Floss of Kentucky; his daughter, Robin Michelle Saavedra of Kissimmee, Florida; and his grandson, Jonathan Saavedra.
He is also survived by three stepchildren: Jonathan (Cynthia) Whitaker of Lexington, Kentucky; Cathy Whitaker of Somerset, Kentucky; and Shelly (Philip) Houchens of Greenville, South Carolina. He leaves behind four step-grandchildren: Hannah Whitaker of Reno, Nevada; Sarah Whitaker and Nathan Whitaker, both of Lexington, Kentucky; and Evie Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Floss, in August 2022.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 12:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial and a brief graveside service will follow at Goodwater Cemetery in Mt. Victory, Kentucky.
Howard will be remembered for his kindness, curiosity, sense of humor, devotion to family and faith, and his genuine love for connecting with others.
