Carl Wayne Cogdill, age 64 of Nancy, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, February 27, 2026 at his home.
He was born on March 12, 1961 in Henagar, Alabama, the son of Bill and Ethel Jones Cogdill. He was a member of the Old Fashion Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and hunting for ginseng. Wayne was known for his big personality, enjoyed joking with people and was known for his laugh. He was always the life of the party and was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Cogdill; his first wife, Karen Cogdill; and a nephew, Greg Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Shelia Cogdill; his father Bill Cogdill of Somerset; daughters, Rebecca (Josh) Thornton of Mt Vernon, Stephanie (Scott) Mudd of Burnside, and Katie Taylor (Josh Mayfield) of Nancy; stepdaughters, Jessica (David) Duncan of Wayne County, and Samantha (Victor) Vanover of Wayne County; brothers, Randy (Terri) of Ferguson and Jeff (Jen) Cogdill of Somerset; sisters, Wilma Burdine of Bronston, Norma (Troy) Trull of Science Hill, Rena Lafavers of Somerset, and Kathy (Sam) Barber of Somerset; grandchildren, Kierra Burton, Jasmine Emerson, Matthew Taylor, Karena Steiner, Levi Taylor, James Steiner, Dakota Burton, Samuel Taylor, Vanessa Steiner, Braiden Duncan, Caleb Taylor, and Paisley Duncan; great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Deaton, Eliana Taylor, and Meredith Burton; two future great-grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and friends
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Bro. Rudy Branscum officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Carl Cogdill Memorial Fund.
