Somerset, KY Obituaries. Preserving Their Memory.

Kathy Lynn Taylor, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at her home in the Elrod community of Somerset. She was surrounded by her family, whom she loved more than anything. She was born on October 6, 1963, in Somerset, Kentucky.
Kathy loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed spoiling her children and grandchildren—often trying to hide it from her husband. Everyone knew that if you asked Momma or Mamaw, the answer was always yes.
Kathy was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until her health no longer allowed. She was never ashamed to share that she was a Christian and that she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to know that her family was saved and that they would be with her in Heaven one day.
She is survived by her husband, James Taylor, whom she married on September 5, 1980. They spent 46 wonderful years together, remaining inseparable until her passing. Their marriage was a true example of love and commitment for their children and grandchildren. Through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, James remained her devoted husband and caregiver.
She is survived by her children: Jamie (Latricia) Taylor; Tonya Combs; and Jessica (Bobby) Church, all of Somerset.
Her grandchildren, who will miss her dearly: Ryan (Abby)Taylor, Jenna Combs, Alexa Taylor (and fiancé Landon Cooper), Bryson Church, Memphis Combs, Brooke Church, Kade Church, and Londyn Church.
Her great-grandchildren: Lakelyn Clark, Maverick Taylor, and soon-to-be-born Lawson Taylor.
She leaves behind her brother, Scotty York (Kim Sullivan); her sister, Tammy McLin; stepbrother, Kenny Steele; her mother-in-law, Lois Taylor; and her sisters- and brothers-in-law: Gale (Bob) Burris, Sharron (Donnie) Price and Doyle (Vickie) Taylor.
She is also survived by a host of extended family, friends, and church members who will mourn her passing, yet rejoice with the family in knowing that Kathy has been made whole.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill York and Georgia Ping Lester; her grandparents, Bill and Oneida York, who were like parents; her father-in-law, James Homer Taylor; stepmother Lorraine York, stepbrother, Gary Steele; stepsister, Vickie Steele; nephew, Thomas Burris; and niece, Marina Price.
The family would also like to thank the caring staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland by making this time easier for Kathy and her family.
To honor the memory of Kathy Taylor, visitation will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026 from 6-8pm at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 12pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Bro. Jamie Taylor, Bro. Bobby Church, and Bro. Chris Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Southern Oaks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideons International or Hospice of Lake Cumberland. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Kathy Lynn Taylor. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Kathy Lynn Taylor.
