Ottis Gene Begley, age 90 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on September 9, 1935 in Leslie County, Kentucky, son of the late Bige and Stella Huff Begley. He retired from Cumberland Transportation. Gene was saved at a young age and he loved the Lord. When he was able, he attended Bethany Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching WLJC and he was an avid UK Basketball and Cincinnati Reds Baseball fan. He enjoyed joking, pulling pranks and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mazie Adams Begley; a son, Douglas Begley; brothers, Bobby Begley, Carl Begley, Clyde Begley, and B.J. Begley; sisters, Mary Huff, Edna Taylor, Opal Rainey, Dailey Huff, and Daisy Begley.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Donna (Darrell) Martin of Eubank; grandchildren, Leslie (Jonathan) Clark, Troy Martin, and Nicki (Allan) Beasley; great-grandchildren, Caeden Clark, Bram Clark, Quinn Clark, Hadley Clark, Piper Clark, Eliza Clark, Ayden Beasley, and Brylee Beasley. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and several special friends.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Raymond Ridner officiating. Burial will be in the Whitaker Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Whitaker Cemetery Mowing Fund C/O Gene Whitaker.
