Joan Pastuch

On Sunday, June 7, 2020, Joan Pastuch, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 85 with family members at her side. Joan was born and raised in Somerset, Ky. She graduated from Somerset High School where she was a member of the folk dancing club. Achieving a scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky to major in home economics was a proud accomplishment. It was at this university where she met and married William Pastuch. Throughout their marriage, they relocated several times because of work. She was able to make a house a home no matter where she lived. After the kids were grown, she taught kindergarten part-time and drove a school bus. Joan enjoyed all four seasons and was quite the nature lover. Her activities included water and snow skiing, cooking, gardening, reading, solving puzzles, and of course watching UK basketball. Joan made friends easily and kept in touch with a long list of lasting friendships. One of these friends owned a ski boat and helped her become the longest mile skier of Lake Cumberland in her day. At 22 miles, she broke all the boys bragging records of 10 miles! She loved reminiscing about the fun times she had over the years as it got harder for her to participate in the activities she loved. She will be remembered for her positivity, love of life and friends, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bill. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey, Brenda, Gregory, and Darrell, her sister Peggy, grandchildren Katie and Annie, and great grandchildren Tristen and Lincoln. She will be missed greatly, thought of fondly, and everyone’s lives were better by knowing her. She will be laid to rest in Mill Springs National Cemetery. Rest In Peace. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Joan Pastuch.
