Ann Shirley Lay

Ann Shirley Lay, age 82, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at her home.

Ann was born on November 14, 1939 to Orville Kemper and Shirley Ashman Evans in Somerset, Kentucky.

She retired from Roses to be a full-time Mamaw. She loved the Lord and prayed for everybody. She served the Lord faithfully as she cared for her family and those who crossed her path. She was a member of High Street Baptist Church, a long-time member of the Community Bible Study and Homemakers.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Orville Kemper and Shirley Evans. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 65 years, Larry Moore Lay; daughter, Sheryl (Neal) Shoemaker of Somerset, Ky; son, Larry Travis (Ren) Lay of Louisville, Ky; brother, Chester (Karoline) Stringer of Bronston, Ky; grandchildren, Britani Shoemaker, Brooke (Jordan) Begley, Bree (Israel) Shoemaker; Brye Lay; great-grandchildren, Quaneisha Shoemaker, A.C. Prater, Jalil McBride, Nola Begley, Graham Begley, Eden Begley, Forrest Begley and grand dog, “Rosie”.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 12 to 2 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2 P.M. with Bro. Ed Amundson and Jordan Begley officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to High Street Baptist Church Kings Mercy Ministry at 102 Bourne Avenue Somerset, Ky 42501. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Ann Shirley Lay.

    Anne was a beautiful person and we were privileged to have her for a friend and neighbor. She is surely in an even better place today, but we will miss her, even from a distance.
