Daniel L. (Danny) Ball

Daniel L. (Danny) Ball of Somerset, Ky., died on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ky. He was 70 years old.

Born to Robert and Margaret Ball of Shepherdsville, Ky., Danny was retired from Kentucky State Police and most recently worked at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

He had served at Madisonville Post 2 as a trooper and sergeant, and at Bowling Green Post 3 and with the KSP computer technology branch in Frankfort as a lieutenant. He was later employed as associate director for the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium at the Center for Rural Development.

One of the highlights of his professional career was graduating from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., in 1991 as one of approximately 250 supervisors from police departments from around the world.

Danny was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, the beach and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Wendy (Walker) Ball; two sons, Daniel Ball Jr. and Adam (Megan) Ball of Princeton, Ky.; grandchildren Haiden, Anniston and Adeline, also of Princeton; two sisters, Mary Margaret (Bill) Fox of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Sue Ann Jolly of Shelbyville, Ky.; one brother, Joe (Vicki) Ball of Shepherdsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son by a previous marriage, Robert Lewis Ball; brother Bill Ball; brother-in-law Carl Jolly; and nephews Billy Ball Jr. and Bobby Jolly.

Funeral services will be at Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 KY 914, in Somerset on Monday, January 8, 2024 with full Kentucky State Police honors. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. EST at the funeral home with the service at 6 p.m.

A memorial and burial service will be held at a later time at Nortonville United Methodist Church with burial at New Salem Cemetery in Nortonville, Ky.
