Eunice Imogene Sayers

Eunice Imogene Sayers, age 84, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away from this life on Thursday, February 15th, 2024, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

Eunice was born on April 20, 1939, to the late Sirl McClendon and Zelma Young in Faubush, Kentucky.

Eunice was a member of First Baptist Church of Science Hill, where she taught Sunday School, Awana and VBS for over 50 years.  She started her teaching career at 18 years old in Wayne County and concluded her 39 year career as a librarian at Science Hill Independent School.  She was on the Lake Cumberland Area Development District Board for 20 years in Russell Springs. She was also named Teacher of the Year in 1995 from Campbellsville University.  She was also an Honorable KY Colonel.

She enjoyed extensive traveling, in the US and abroad, frequently favoring Europe.  She took pleasure in attending to her garden, especially her flowers.  She always put others first and was the first to lend a helping hand to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her father Sirl McClendon, and mother Zelma Young. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory the love of her life and husband of 62 years, David; son David Jr. (Deanna); daughter Delicia; grandchildren Alexandria (Ally) Garner, James Sayers and Avery Sayers; and one great grandchild E. Everest Kouis; brothers Cliff, Roger, and Arthur; sisters Gladys Loveless, Janice Armstrong and Pam Leigh.

Visitation service will be on Monday, February 19th, at 5-8 pm, at Southern

Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 20th, at 12pm at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Internment:  2pm at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.
