Leta Opal Bobbitt

Leta Opal Bobbitt, age 103, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born on November 5, 1915 in the Grundy Community, daughter of the late William and Olga Placke Bates.

She was a retired seamstress for Palm Beach Co. and was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ at church, gardening and being a Sunday School Teacher. Leta was a Godly Woman and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-three years, Henry Wilson Bobbitt; son, Vernon Bobbitt; daughter, Kathie Elaine Cates; brothers, Harold Bates, Jeff Bates, William “Short” Bates and Alton Bates; sisters, Effie Callahan and Ola Jasper.

She is survived by brothers, Edward Bates, Johnny Bates and Robert Bates; sisters, Dorothy Gillium, Marie Sowder, Edna Mae Compton and Roberta Cundiff; grandchildren, Barry (and Jan) Branscum, Lisa (and Dormus) Smith and Kellie (and David) Baker; great-grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Kacie Baker and Nathan Baker; and a host of special nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with funeral service to be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. David Baker and Bro. David Harmon officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Leta Opal Bobbitt.
