Roberta B. (McWilliams) Poynter

Roberta B. (McWilliams) Poynter, age 99, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Roberta was born on March 20, 1924 to the late Benjamin McWilliams and Bessie Elder McWilliams in Pulaski County, Kentucky.

She accepted Jesus Christ in her heart as her Lord and Savior in October of 1938. She was Baptized at Woodstock Baptist Church. She was always faithful in attending church, even volunteered her time in cleaning the church weekly when she was a teenager. She always loved children and taught the young ones in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 30 years at Woodstock Baptist Church. Roberta loved all her grandchildren and was always wanting to do for them or make them something. She made over 100 quilts and never sold one. She had given them all out except 2 at her passing. She was an outdoors person, had a garden till she was 98, worked in her flowers and yard every chance she had. She was employed at Palm Beach factory as a seamstress for over 30 years and helped work on the farm with her husband. She always had special memories of working with her brother, David when she was young and her dad on the farm. Canaan Baptist Church, where she was a member at, held a special place in her heart. Special thanks to those who have continually been there for her.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Bessie McWilliams, her husband of 69 years, Noah Poynter, sisters, Margaret McWilliams, Anna Mae Nicely and Wilma Wilburn and brother, David McWilliams.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Carolyn (Jerry) Farmer, son, Robert (Dalene) Poynter, grandchildren, Christa (John) Christenbury, Melinda Flynn, Angela Farmer, Lucas (Ashley) Poynter, great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Dye, Acey (Kyle) Ball, Abbie Farmer, Amie Christenbury, Sarah Christenbury, Kaitlyn Christenbury, Adria Poynter, Julia Poynter, Ansley Poynter, Emmalyn Poynter, Maddox Flynn, great-great grandchildren, Xander Farmer, Oliver Farmer, Lennox Dye, Riley Christenbury,; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 12 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2 P.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Brian Plants officiating. Burial will follow in Woodstock Cemetery. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Robert B. (McWilliams) Poynter.
