Ronald E. Brotherton

Ronald E. Brotherton, age 74, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, April 29, 2019 at his home.

He was born on September 11, 1944 in the Saline Community in Pulaski County, son of the late Bernard Brotherton and Allene Hargis Brotherton-Tarter.

After 27 years as a machinist and retired from Copeland Corporation in Sidney, Ohio, Ronald moved to Somerset in May of 1993 and worked for Lumber King for 16 more years.

Ronald attended Beacon Hill Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed the outdoors and the Somernite’s Cruise. He was an avid UK Basketball fan and enjoyed watching sports. He also enjoyed his canine friends, Lacey and Biscuit.

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Brotherton and Allene Hargis Brotherton-Tarter; his brothers-in-law Joe Bastin, Joe Lee Daulton, and Darrell Taylor; his grandson Matthew Newland; and step father, Athel Tarter; father-in-law Densel Taylor; and a sister Tamara Daulton.

Ronald is survived by his wife Diann Taylor Brotherton, whom he married on December 12, 1970 in Somerset; his mother-in-law, Fern Taylor of Nancy; daughters Melissa (and Kevin) Newland of Columbus Indiana, Angela Brotherton (and Mike Gastineau) of Eubank, and Aimee Brotherton of Somerset; a brother Wendell (and Karen) Brotherton of Nancy, grandchildren Durand Shelton, Kayla Newland, and Kyle Newland as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday May 2, 2019 from 5pm-9pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday May 3, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro Keith McKim officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Ronald E. Brotherton.
