Tia Maria Cooksey, age 57 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
She was born on November 25, 1968 in Somerset, Kentucky, the daughter of Gary Colyer, Brenda Fisher Colyer and stepfather Denny Eller. Tia enjoyed collecting arrowheads, being outdoors, hiking, coloring, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Evelyn Fisher; uncles, Bobby Fisher, Donnie “Bobo” Fisher, and Gary Fisher.
She is survived by her parents; her daughter, Ashlee Maria Emerson (Steven) Douglas of McKee, KY; the father of her daughter, Tim Emerson of Somerset; sisters, Cary (Robert) Busack of Somerset, Kimberly McPheron (Russell Miller) of Elizabethtown, KY and Addy Colyer of Somerset; aunt, Susie Dagley; uncles, Jimmy (Faye) Fisher of Science Hill, David Fisher of Somerset, and Johnny (Kathy) Fisher of Somerset; nieces, Brandy (Juney) Dix of Louisville and Matria Haynes of Brunswick, GA; nephew, Derek “Tyler” Walker of Somerset; and Vilda Jean Vaught of Somerset, who was like a sister.
Visitation will begin at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Bro. Donnie Whitis officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Tia Maria Cooksey Memorial Fund C/O Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
